Honestly it just smacks of nothing but self loathing to me. That or seeing near zero value in your self image or your perception of self that if you woke up as anyone else you'd be happier. It's usually too late for them when that happens. Even if the troons in question haven't mutated themselves with hormones or mutilated themselves with SRS, by the time the penny drops they have already alienated everyone who ever cared about them. Their family, their friends, their colleagues. They'll all be sick of the troon and his unreasonable demands and narcissistic episodes. The only thing left for the troon is the other troons he's secluded himself socially with.
It's not "avoiding transphobes". It's classic cult behavior. It's the equivalent of calling everybody you don't like a suppressive person. And even when you realize the cult doesn't have your best interests in mind, leaving is too difficult. Let's not forget most of these people fall in line precisely because they're not strong enough to hack it on their own. They'll only leave when the cult itself is dismantled, and even then they're likely to just go find another group to pathologically "belong" to.
