It's like people acting like they've got PTSD over how Disney treated Star Wars.
Do I like what they've done with the place? No. I think the new stuff is mostly just trash. But a media franchise, no matter how influential it's been, has no bearing on my life decisions. Entertainment is nice, but if it's causing you anguish you're doing it wrong. Drop it and go do something else.
While there are people that fucking deranged that they put that much time and thought into it, I think the bigger issue is
why they feel it's so important. It's an easy thing to miss amongst the shuffle, and all things equal, it's not like the majority of them take the time to clarify in any real capacity, and while part of it is completely self-explanatory - a crowd that doesn't really give a shit about something muscling in, evicting its existing fanbase, then using that something as nothing more than a mouthpiece for their stupid fucking opinions - there's a second reason a lot of them become intractable.
Video Games and other entertainment media are
escapism. For a lot of people with bad lives - especially younger peope - they're more than a coping mechanism, they're one of the few things that they can take shelter in and forget about their problems for a little while with. They let them put themselves in a different headspace, let them cool down, or even recover a bit, even if something gets frustrating or heated, because at least they're not focusing on how much their life sucks at the moment.
Don't pretend you don't know people like that, especially if you're in
this fucking thread.
Believe it or not, that escapism being destroyed is
exactly what the assclowns shitting up modern entertainment are trying to do. The whole purpose of the usual suspects moving into otherwise harmless entertainment vectors is
specifically to cut off retreat vectors from politics and outrage, in an attempt to spur social conflict. Look up Gramsci some time. Say what you will about the spergs upset about how Disney's handling of the Star Wars IP to they point they're threatening to slit their wrists - you'll most likely be right - but do not forget that this shit is intentional across the board.
It dovetails perfectly into Sterling himself, because he's part of the gang pushing this shit. He's one of the fuckers arguing that everything is always political, at all times, and you have no right to say "fuck this, I'm out." He's one of the bastards unironically arguing that games he personally disapproves of
have no right to exist. He won't leave vidya no matter how much he legitimately hates it - none of his asshat associates will, despite treating gaming with nothing but giggling fucking contempt. And we all know why they fucking won't.
