I wondered this. Chantal rags on her dad and I seem to remember her at one point saying he had tried to deny he was her dad. So I wonder if she said something like her mom had cheated on her dad and he might not even be her dad and never clarified that her dad is not her mom's husband. So, Nader doesn't realize that what she told him is 38 year old shit and not anything that would bother step-dad a bit. Now, if her dad was mom's husband and mom wasn't sure who Chantal's dad really was...now that could be a different story.
