Then why make the documentary? By merely mentioning AF, he gives them international legitimacy and notoriety that it doesn't even deserve. The whole point of doing a documentary like this, from the point of view of a status-slave journalist, is to either sic the elite upon Nick, or to make Nick look like such a viable candidate that it takes the wind out of the sails of the principled and serious right wing. It's a form of narrative capture that turns the least radical part of the dissident right into its face, turning it back into a Paleocon-style controlled op.

Theroux's style has always been going in and letting the subject hoist themselves on their own petard, its not a classic hit piece but it does make AF look bad. The documentary had less to do with fuentes and more to do with radical online groups. I suspect that's part of the series but they never got into the politics beyond calling everyone a White nationalist. The bit about the purity spiral with Venti was good, and it signals where the movement may be headed.

Fuentes mentioned talking with Louis for hours on his show a while ago, but what we got was so trimmed down. The stupidest part is none of these idiots seems capable of responding well to Louis. All Beardson had to say is "It wasn't a nazi salute, it looks like one and I can see why you'd say it is, but it isn't."

When it comes to optics talk in the far right, it often seems to just mean not outright praising Hitler and avoiding interacting with accusations lobbed at you by the "other side".
