Inactive Byuu / byuu_nyan / setsunakun0 / Near / David Ginder - "Non-binary" furry programmer who wrote a Super Nintendo emulator, tried to blackmail Null into removing his thread, and is probably actually dead lol

He's also critised NFTs (which are the love-it-or-hate-it of cryptocurrency schemes right now) and Richard Stallman, the latter being a major punching bag for younger open source advocates over the past 2-3 years.
These fucking midgets wouldn't even be where they are without rms. So standard of this shit generation not only to stand on the shoulders of giants, but do it while shitting on those shoulders. Fuck you Hector, do a Byuu but for real this time.

There's a whole thread on RMS and the attempts to cancel him. Summing it up, he survived it because the open source "Advocates" (aka. wannabe politicians who haven't written a line of code in ten years) lost interest and went after other targets, especially because RMS had more people backing him up than condemning him.

Interesting, right now Byuu's 'supporters' are going after another target now they've lost interest. Like the RMS situation, popular opinion of Retroarch is heavily divided, with I assume a majority in support of it. I wonder how long before they start DDOS'ing Github instead of this site?

As one final note, if solid undeniable proof that Byuu is still alive comes out (i'd estimate we have 75% proof right now) its going to be funny seeing Hector defend himself, and how much it will affect Asahi Linux.

I automatically don't trust it because a worthless scumbag piece of shit who would assist in something as outrageous as a fake suicide would probably also put backdoors in it. You can't trust a slithering snake like Hector.

Probably zero. I don't think the people who care about Linux internals will look at the Asahi project or its leader much deeper than the project itself, which is fair enough - I don't go looking into the history of all the developers of the OSS I use to see what stupid shit they've done in their pasts, either. Hector's gonna get away with it.

And, look, as an Apple nerd, I have to begrudgingly appreciate some of the hard work Hector has done in regards to his work with Asahi, rooting around and bringing various undocumented parts of Apple's hardware into the sunlight. In ten years, when Apple is no longer supporting M1s with macOS, you're going to be able to install a free OS on your Mac mini and still have a quite capable and up-to-date computer, and Hector's work will have been a big part of it.

It's just too bad that I and a select few other people will have a hard time separating that art from the artist and the scumbag things he did, either willingly or through willing ignorance.

Maybe. But when people are flakes like this, if you make the mistake of getting used to their product still existing in a few years, they often chimp out and burn everything. I just see disaster area people like this and avoid anything they have anything to do with because they will figure out some way of turning it into shit.

Lead dev (Lain) actually seems to be a cool guy, and his home instance (lain.com) even got its membership on fediblock. Unless there's some other drama that I'm not aware of.
I recall one of the original Pleroma devs had a run in with null and other "bad people" and since it could not prevent "bad people" from using the software for any purpose they see fit, they left foss entirely.

A few weeks ago I was in a target near me and I saw fucking cookie jars in the front discount cheap shit area for $5 that looked EXACTLY like the "urn" in the photo and I was so fucking tempted to buy one as a joke but didn't because money. I went there today they all seem to be gone, things must've sold well enough. Must've been a LOTTA dead people. My hypothetical bodycount from continuing to exist fucking skyrocketed it seems.

I brought up the thing to an acquaintance about a week ago and they were confused by what I meant when I said "remember that vidya death hoax thing from a while ago" but once they found out they went ballistic on me about how "IT"S NOT A HOAX THE EMPLOYER CONFIRMED IT" and i brought up the shady shit and they literally did the "SOURCE DO YOU HAVE A SOURCE ON THAT?!" shit it was like watching someone get posessed by political purity spiral demons and rapidly mutate into a living soyjack meme lmao. Of course they got me at a time where I couldnt actively just show them the "source" and even if i did they'd ask me for a source on where I got the source and if I say "funny moments site" they'll either go "SUICIDE IS NOT FUNNY!" or ask the specific one and brand me some kinda hatemongerer I know how this shit flows. As amusing as this is it's sad seeing people around me all slowly lose their fucking minds to the hyperpolitical purity spiral current year groupthink shit cause I don't even hang around those types of places socially.

OT but I'll have you know that this is the first time I've heard of Asahi Linux and this is just making me wonder: Why not just figure out how to get more than one Linux Distro on Mac? What makes this one distro so special over installing Arch Linux on your Mac, or even as much as buying a mac just for one specific Linux Distro?

Asahi is specifically targeting Apple Silicon-based Macs, with Apple's new ARM-based platform. While ARM-based Linuxes are quite mature (see Raspberry Pi ecosystem), Asahi has tuned it for Apple Silicon as well as solving problems that didn't exist yet such as using its graphics and security subsystems.

Other Linux and non-Linux FOSS OSes are being ported to the platforms as well, but all of them are using concepts, if not code, that Hector has developed with his work with Asahi.

As for buying a Mac for a specific distro, I don't think there's many people doing that (unless you broaden the definition of "Linux distro" wide enough to support macOS). It's more for virtualizing or side-loading a Linux system alongside macOS, or, once Apple stops officially supporting macOS on this hardware, having another option to fall back on.

Nobody's yet done native Linux support for the M1 Macs. If you want to do it, you currently have to do it in a VM. I heard there's actually native support in the kernel at this point, but I'm not aware of an actual distro that plays well with M1 yet. I might have missed something.

I say this as a programmer: programmers are almost all on the spectrum to some degree. The type of programmer to make multiple cycle-accurate emulators in his spare time for free, much moreso. Whenever you see a cookie cutter genderspecial programmer-socks-wearing Twitter lunatic, you can bet hard cash that person is autistic. Autistic people, to put it lightly, tend to overreact to criticism.

It's a legitimate problem that nobody talks about: these people hate themselves because their autism makes them feel unhappy and "wrong" all the time, but they're also very gullible so they're prime targets for brainwashing into the troon death cult. They're told that the reason they're unhappy is because they're actually magical genderblobs, and when coming out as a genderblob doesn't make them feel better, they're told that it's because transphobes are giving them imposter syndrome or whatever trendy mental illness is cool at the moment. At this point their locus of control is entirely external: imaginary internet Nazis have absolute control over their lives, which causes them to spiral into a deep depression of helplessness and self-hatred.

Nobody over the age of maybe 16 idealizes themselves as a furry baby with angel wings unless they really, really hate who they are IRL. When a 38 year old man is doing it, you know something's incredibly wrong.

I think it's entirely plausible that Byuu killed himself, and I think it is 100% the fault of the echo chamber of furries and trannies who enabled his delusions and psychoses. It wouldn't have mattered how nice we were to him, he'd have found another batch of alt-right fascist transphobes to declare the arbiters of his happiness, even if he had to make them up entirely. Self-realization is entirely forbidden in the toxic internet culture he was part of.

Gonna have to disagree on the 'most programmers' point, but completely agree with pretty much everything else. I've met multiple trans people that get super hooked into specific communities that just so happen to be mainly filled with others in the spectrum (read: outcasts). The amount of times I've been lectured on specific random (sub)cultures hurts my brain, but it generally ends up coming down to one thing: they 'belong'. Unfortunately, this 'brainwashing' can also lead to the trans community, and (in my mind) lead them to think/want to be trans... To belong.

Tbh I think there are a lot of people that legitimately have these feelings of being trans, but I think a lot of the autist trans just want to feel special.... And that's fucked

Sorry if old (when I tried to archive it said someone else already did about an hour ago), but saw this earlier today and thought it was worth sharing. Apparently it's from the new River City Girls game on the Nintendo Switch.

Yep, River City Girls Zero. This message is in the licensing info section. Hilarious they would put this on a console for a company that famously hates emulation.

What's the issue with retroarch?
There's plenty of valid complaints about usability (more of a learning curve than anything) but honestly I like it because it's really easy to apply whatever shaders you want to every core available (so a good crt shader to old console games that look way better that way, LCD grid and color dimming shaders that make GBA and DS games look right) and it's nice that all I have to do as far as set up most of the time is google 'best retroarch cores' or whatever and some simple settings within the same program I use for almost everything else. Also it gets a fuckload easier to use when you realize you can accomplish a lot of things with the desktop UI opened by pressing F5 but yeah, they need to work on putting everything there because the gamepad centered menus are kind of inherently terrible by comparison.

Completely unrelated to concerns over its functionality, attention starved troon emudevs and their twitter teenager followers are trying to cancel retroarch by claiming they steal code based on the loose allegations of one sperg dev, and (this is how you know it's bullshit grievance work shopping) blaming them for byuu's fake suicide because people in their discord have had unkind things to say about him behind his back like anyone who has actually interacted with the fucking retard has for about a decade. Right now, or at least like a week ago, retroarch was basically the hitler of emudev, regardless of what you think of them and the program it's been blown of proportion to a comical degree by mentally ill losers.

The emulation community sure are "dedicted"/addicted to pushing the lie that byuu is dead.

We're still waiting for solid proof bitches.
