When a bunch of horses were killed in an IRA bombing in the 70s or 80s, they took a huge PR hit. More than when they killed soldiers, even. Don't kill animals, just spook them so they run away, are uncontrollable, and can't be used against you.

Horses are herd/prey animals, so in general they are easily spooked. This is what makes horses used in LE (or formerly the military) so amazing - we have taken a prey animal and made it a weapon. Of course they also have the benefit of being very athletic and intelligent working in their favor, which is why they got picked over say, cows.

The plastic bag thing is kind of an equestrian meme. All horses aren't inherently scared of plastic bags, it's just that something as minor as an old plastic bag flowing by in the wind can be enough to make your horse have a chimp out. Another note is that because of the way their eyes are set, horses have a major blind spot right in front of them.

I like horses and dogs alot. If it is a life saving scenario there are things that can be done.

Horses are hard to fuck up and will keep operating even if they lose a hoof. Have seen it happen. It is very messy but fast mass blood loss is their end and it happens very quick if they are kicking/running and pumping blood out. Otherwise they can and will take alot of shit. Even untrained horses may not back off when injured.
Dogs are easier in a way, being smaller, but are much much harder to be one on one with, than a horse. More than one then you do need a decent caliber hand gun. If you ever end up on your back with a dog on top trying to chew your face off then , with all your might that you can muster, quickly spread its front legs apart like you want the paws to touch behind its neck. That will fuck it up but you might be too fucked up yourself to care.

Eta: another thing that fucks up horses is something heavy-ish that can be securely tied on the end of a good length of climbing rope. The aim is to try and swing it at the legs and get the heavy end to carry the rope around two legs so they are disabled. Hard to explain but like Luke did with that walker, or whatever it was called. It is hard to achieve but is possible and even if you get it round one leg you can try and tie the other end to something like another riders stirrups and fuck up two with one strike.
Horse will be able to buck, or kick, or do both at the same time but cant turn, or run. Might even fall over and might not be able to get up. Makes your attack easier or you just move on to the next threat.
Getting up is actually quite difficult for a horse to do, anyway. It is why you should always build 'banks' where walls meet floors, in overnight stables.

All I can think watching the police line abuse motherfuckers is it sure would be nice if the protestors were people who rode bikes and as a result had bike locks. You know, those really hard metal bike locks not the rope type ones. The cops don't seem to be wearing helmets. If they were to learn about the importance of helmets that wouldn't be terrible.

True, not all of them are afraid of it. One of our horses was and took work to get her over it. Her daughter, however, was fearless from the get-go and when we showed her the bag, she grabbed it from us and started waving it around herself to play with it. :heart-full:

It used to be the opposite. America was an attempt at restoring ancient Anglo-Teutonic liberty as it was slowly dying in the old country. Even when America revolted against the British, Britain was one of the freest countries in the world. Granted almost every other country that mattered at the time was some flavour of divine right absolute monarchy but still. If you believe Academic Agent it was Tony Blair that finished turning Britain into a police state and the rest of the commonwealth followed from that.

Dressed well and 3. In interviews post retirement she mourned the loss of those who simply read the news leaving viewers to decide for themselves.
