The problem is that there is no "common carrier" to protest squat on.
I say this as someone who rages against the shitty racial blob shit wizards is pivoting into and who understands that while Wizards doesn't control my table, it does set the default tone & timbre for the new players showing up.

But because of that, there isn't any way to "seize" D&D unless (at this point) you were to get a controlling interest in Hasbro.

You can already play D&D without giving Wizards a red cent - pirate-like with PDFs or legal-like with second hand books, and anyone smart has either gone that route or moved to other systems.

There is not "singular power" fight for D&D outside of storming CR's studio and live streaming beheading Matt Mercer, I mean. Its a culture war, you win by outdoing their influence. You do that making and promoting better games and modules than Wizards is pumping out. And a large part of that is not doing cringey Boomer Coomer shit. And maybe getting a little less high.

The premise on this one is in one of his ttrpg facebook groups he argued with a guy who played pathfinder who said the most important thing about ttrpgs is having fun, of course, Darrick is like "no, it isn't just about fun, it is about immersion!" he also says stuff like video games can't be immersive.

I bring him Pokemon Go which the whole reason it was a fad for a while is because you had to go outside and catch pokemon like you were a real pokemon trainer, pretty immersive. Infact, LARPing is even more immersive than ttrpgs and does the same thing (though Darrick would probably get kicked out of most LARPs for being creepy with the exception of "ugg hit with stick" LARPs like Dagorhir/Belegarth which barely qualifies).

Basically, TTRPGs are srs business and immersion is more important than fun. I don't know what you would do if you are immersed, but not having fun though. He reminds me of that one EV trainer guy named Julian in Pokemon Rusty who is like "Pokemon is not about fun, it is about winning and math" (though Darrick is too baked for math, let's face it).

Also, there is a blog post, of course, it isn't related at all to ttrpgs, just about politics (archive)

TTRPGs should be both, and they should be neither.
TTRPGs should be about 'having fun' but there is no standard definition of fun. Some people have fun with immersion, some people don't.

Also I'm going to be pressing X pretty hard on a Pathfinder player's idea of "having fun" being actually having fun for anyone else since in my experience the average Pathfinder player's idea of "having fun" is building some overpowered munchkin to derail any actual plot. Yes, its hilarious having 50 points in Escape Artist allows you crawl up a guys anus and when chained with perform feats mean when you bust out of his body the whole town now worships you .... for about 10 minutes.


I'm going to add that while not as popular as it was at its peak, there is still a very active and sizeable player base for Pokemon Go. (source: one of my friends still plays Pokemon Go, despite my urging to seek help. The local park is significantly busier when its a Pokemon Go Event)

Reminder that Darrick pathologically makes his games damn near impossible to "immerse" yourself in due to his desire to spam random access humor jokes in his game and okays shitpost names like GrimDark. I guess it's only "immersive" when he needs to win an argument with someone who disagrees with him.

So it's "gonzo" when he needs to pretend he's irreverent, but "immersive" when he needs to pretend he's capable of putting more than 0 seconds of thought into anything.

I could barely do something with the 15 minutes, if I decided to run something like Everyone is John or Lunch Rush, the Deli RPG. There's no way in hell I could make something work in 5 minutes barring a random improv scene. It's just not something that I think anyone who'd play a game would want to do, since they usually expect and want to play for at least a couple hours.

Seriously, if he's struggling to focus for an hour to run; he's beyond fucked. How and why he thinks he's a decent DM is a pure example of delusion.

The Convoy is a bunch of people vital for society's functioning pulling some "mostly peaceful" fuckfuck games to disrupt society to make their decades-long sideling felt and watching the ACAB crowd try to cheer for their arrest and economic ruin despite cheering for feral nogs burnign cities is hilarious to watch.
