I think you've hit right on the head why Joe makes me MATI. One of the reasons, anyway (there are many). I've known many good professors for whom the pursuit and transfer of knowledge is genuinely the absolute goal. If a student doesn't understand, they reword, re-do, find another example, approach from a different angle. Anything to transfer the knowledge from themselves to the student. If a student can add, nuance, or correct anything they say, they fucking LOVE it. Because what matters to them is the common pursuit of truth, not being right.

Joe is the opposite type, who will twist evidence and argue semantics in order to be 'right' all the time. He wants to lord knowledge over the heads of the inferior, to hoard it and be worshipped for having it exclusively. He dislikes disagreement and will move the goalposts to appear right even when he's not. Fuck truth, I'm the professor.

The Joe types love post-modernism because it posits that there isn't any objective truth anyway, so they can always be right.

I noped the fuck out of classes in college in the first week if I got a whiff of a Joe type.

I think the last 24 hours or so have been a real low point for Joe, and that is saying something.
