RWBY - The Hindenburg on which Rooster Teeth rests its hopes, dreams and future

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
I think it's an excuse that lets him explain away all his weird choices. "Oh, I had to keep this because it's part of the show." "Oh, I could cut this because it doesn't affect the show in my mind.
This always really stuck out to me, way back when he was doing the first volume. Celtic's defense was that he wanted to keep as much of it as he could for... reasons? Like a personal challenge or something, but it's stupid because you are fundamentally changing things, just not the serious core writing flaws that have sunk the show as a whole. He doesn't cut what needs cut, he just piles more shit into the septic tank.

Okay, sure, you gave some things a bit more screen time and added some (alleged) character development, but that doesn't really make the story better. It smacks more like he's just too lazy, or maybe insecure, to move beyond the fanfic writer's mindset of getting to play with somebody else's toys.

Wasn't hid book just a Madoka fanfic with the proper nouns switched? Dude doesn't seem like he has any confidence in really coming up with new ideas that are all his own.
Well, the biggest issue with Jerry Freeman was how much he changed. Maybe Celtic is trying to avoid that pitfall.

It is, there's even a couple points where he forgot to file off the serial numbers.

This last one is a biggest excerpt because I want all of you to have to look at "niggling."

Christ, how hard is it do a find and replace for something like that. Especially if it was written on something like Word? Was he too lazy to even do that?

Celtic has a long and storied history of laziness. Hard work doesn't seem like his forte, anything that requires actual effort seems to get passed off to his legion of slaves, I mean, 'volunteers'.

Well the real issue is that these people are throwing all this time and effort into polishing somebody else's turd, rather than making their own shit.

Jesus, his cumbrain really does get the best of him. It's like seeing Jerry Freeman bitch about Puella Magi for not having enough worldbuilding. both entirely missed the series' main premise due to their flavour of retardation. Homura's love for Madoka is platonic, author said so, and the sole reason she went through hell is so she can prevent ALL of her friends, specially Madoka, from a fate that they were unknowingly put in and succumbing to death and despair, because they're the best thing that happened to her life and she'll do anything to protect them. The entire point of the series itself is all about dealing with despair, some succumb to it (witches), some want overcome it (Madoka), and some come to terms with it (Homura), it's literally plastered all over the series; as a plot device, a theme, and a driver for character development, you have to be a massive fucking retard to even miss it and my golly did both Raymond and Jerry manage to surpass my expectations on sheer internet stupidity.
In the last movie, it even had the first quarter scenes show a scenario where the girls not only won against the witches and Kyubey like a typical shōnen, but Homura and Madoka "affirming their feelings" for one another.

Only for that to be nothing but an illusion, as if the creator himself is telling the fans that their headcanons and other assumptions are nonsensical bullshit that's not only unrealistic, but completely asinine.

Real life isn't some romance novel or shoujo anime. Reality is a careless and cold son of a bitch that will continue to test your grit until you either buckle over and laugh like a jackass, or keep your head high and march forward. The entire series can be summed up as an allegory of growing up and dealing with life.

Yep. Madoka is just one deconstruction of the magical girl genre. Makes you wonder what the reconstruction of the genre would look like.

At least RWBY doesn’t have anyone turning into
Satan.

Raymond claims his fanficstory is a totally realistic coming-of-age novel which he admits was entirely on random shit he saw in middle school (as in, 15 years ago) and one conversation with his older sister. Also one girl becomes a sniper in Iran but in a realistic coming-of-age way.

Lol, are we suddenly talking about Gunslinger Girl now? That sounds like something from reddit that totally happened and shit.

excuse me what? This sounds like one of the little shitposts in the top right corner of this website.

Lads I wish I was joking. Actually, I don't. It's much funnier that this is reality. Read the original chapter here. (https://archive.md/mLJNj) Archived, because he likes to erase his tracks.
In the book version, he specifies the plane crashed right outside Tehran, Iran, which is decidedly not a war-torn, Arabic-speaking, Middle Eastern wasteland like he thinks it is.

As a bonus, here he is admitting that this is just his idea of a Madoka real world AU. And he thinks he's hitting the character beats. Based on previous posts, I don't think he did a good job of doing so.

Man I hate when that happens! But I think we can all agree that fighting insurgents in the Middle East as a fifteen year old is pretty typical of young Japanese women, classic coming of age story for them, just like winning a sports tournament.

But seriously, this isn't too surprising to hear from somebody who clearly never came 'of age' himself. The guy's been living the teenage dork lifestyle well into his (thirties?) Hard to write a realistic story about growing up when you're an eternally stunted manchild obsessed with cartoons, albeit cartoons from a different country, because shonen shit and magical girl shows are so much more mature.

Anyone have that one Dobson comic where he just goes, “criticism doesn’t matter because the show runners are already working on the next season!” Because that’s pretty much the argument OP here is making.
For some brief context, “RWDE” is a tag on Tumblr some people use to talk about RWBY negatively, keep in mind that the community had this tag made back when the show was new so they could more easily filter out criticism.
Now the fandom doesn’t like what RWDE says and now there’s some giant Tumblr drama going on right now.

So, just because something has existed for a while, it can ignore criticism? Is that still true if support for it and the amount of cash being raked in is visibly dropping as criticism and negative reviews stack up?

Well look where they are now, ignoring criticism and letting them do their own thing had resulted in a more autistic and divided viewerbase, years worth of consecutive controversies, and 2 parent companies that are more than willing to cut their losses and throw RT overboard. Oh and RWBY's constant drop in quality with every volume too, I guess.

On another note, speaking of Sabaton and Power Metal, besides the fact that Sabaton's style may suit RWBY better than the Williams' angst-ridden melodrama, there is a particular song that drives another nail in the coffin about how RWBY portrays soldiers - especially disabled ones.

Their latest single, "The Unkillable Soldier" actually pays respect to a ballsy soldier, Adrian Carton de Wiart, who survived getting wounded 11 times over multiple wars, and lived till he was 83. His willingness to come back to war is treated with reverence.

Compare that to Ironwood, whose commitment to fight for his people and military in spite of PTSD and injuries, and prosthetics gets him labelled as evil comparable to Darth Vader.
