I think he talked about how he was deployed in Afghanistan and was in an IED blast that killed the other 3 members of his squad. Being beaten by police is a minor inconvenience comparatively.

I agree it's normal. But if you're a woman of wealth, you can afford to get various treatments to remove it or severely lessen it. She looks very dumpy and not put together for someone who's a well connected politician. Reminds me of Harvey Weinstein, despite being wealthy and surrounded by politicians, millionaires and billionaires, the guy always looked out of place next to everyone else.

As for her single purple outfit, I've always believed that controversial political women (like Hillary Clinton) always wear bad outfits on purpose, hoping the media will comment on it, so they can cry "Sexism!" and have everyone focus on that rather than focus on their god awful policies and various scandals. I'm assuming Freeland's doing the same thing with her one outfit, but after seeing that cellulite and messy hair, I think she's just a fat drunk who is too busy getting off on ruining other people's lives to care about her appearance.

Yeah her hair is always weirdly unkempt. She’s just all wrong for her social position.

It sounds like he corrected himself by stating it was past-tense, as in he previously had those injuries but they were still lingering despite being healed up. So the cops probably didn't even acknowledge it before roughing him up.
