Twitter is a shithole I wouldn't spend time on if you paid me. It's like the outer circles of Hell. And Pat is indisputably a terrible person. From this point of view, he is the exact type of person who deserves his Twitter account.
That's what I'd like to know. I know that lawyers are involved, but what is Twitter actually afraid of? Do they really think that there is some legal theory that Pat's lawyers could advance that would actually give them any chance at all of winning the case? Are they terrified of what dirty secrets of Twitter's might come out if things proceeded to discovery? Or is it just a straight-up financial calculation, where they decide that it would cost X thousands of dollars to defend against even a completely meritless case and 0 dollars to just give him back his Twitter account?
