Surprising how little this is being talked about, and even more, how little is being done. It seems Ukraine is just going to stand down unless Russia decides to push forward for more territory than the Donbas. I knew the US was not going to get involved but I would've guessed that Poland would've started to mobilize towards their borders.

It seems that there's no troop movements in Belarus, which makes me think that Russia is not going to start an invasion just yet. As of now, it's probably just Crimea all over again. pretty much just moving into territory that was already de facto controlled by Russia and making it official. Ukraine has no other choice than to lie down and take it since nobody wants to go to war with Russia.

Poland has already been moving tanks to the borders. I posted that like dozen pages back, shit moves fast.

It was important for Ukraine to play perfect victim and not fire back since Russia has been hard pressed to find "genocide" and dead kids. It looks like their front lines were under expressed order to not fire back under any circumstances despite heavy shelling and casualties (which exist)

Lavrov threatened to send bags of "female" bones from mass graves to Germans since they were laughing about weak proofs on genocide. A lot of these "justifications" are weak sauce, if not downright retarded.

Russians also accused Ukrainians of shelling a Russian vilage ... the only village Ukrainians could theoretically reach, over swamps and wetlands, and even then just one photo of grad-like rocket that's already managed to rust ... sometimes you don't need to do anything, just let Russian propaganda machine fuck themselves in ass like they do often.

In terms of fighting, not a whole lot have changed. Russian soldiers can at least wear their badges. Now the Minsk agreement is void, so calibers over 120mm can be legit used.

The real world is not a video game where you gain a direct benefit from conquering some pre-designated resources. The main issues concerning the Russian economy right now are low birth rates, an ageing population and the constant brain drain of the educated population. Invading Ukraine will only expedite these issues. When the economy crashes and the Rouble loses what little value it has left, every young person with half a brain will seek to leave the country. I do not know a single Russian who would not take the opportunity to live and work in the west if given the chance. Most would even be happy living in China if it meant that they could have a stable life and a reasonable wage without a government that constantly crashes the economy with its insane antics.

Trade and innovation are the things that generate wealth in the real world. The only industry that Ukraine has of any value is the steel industry, and even that is inferior to both the Russian and Chinese industries in quality and value. It'll be cheaper to produce steel in Russia from Russian raw materials for Russian steel products than take over some dinky Ukrainian factory to do the same. Even if you somehow would benefit from these industries, who would you sell these products to? No country would buy products from occupied Ukraine at a reasonable price. Not that there is much value in any Ukrainian products anyway.

I have no doubt that if Russia takes over Eastern Ukraine, every young person with the ability to do so will flee to the west, leaving behind the pensioners and whatever vatniks Ukraine has left. I don't think these will be much help for Russian demographics or the economy.

Didn't realize that Poland had started mobilization. I guess I expected more. Eh, I guess in this modern age even war seems to be stale. As of now I still think we won't be seeing an actual invasion of Ukraine, even after Putin announced that Russia does not recognize Ukrainian statehood. It honestly just seems like Crimea all over again, with the same kind of international response. I may be eating my words later but for the moment, still no war, just Putin testing what it can get away with that doesn't include even more sanctions. I'm pretty convinced he could take the whole enchilada and be alright so long as he doesn't touch Poland.

It could very well be, although I'm a bit sceptical that all the Ukrainians can keep their guns in their pants. You only need one provocation for the whole situation to blow up.

This whole thing gives a good cover for what's going on in Belarus, which is almost as important as what's going on in Ukraine. There will be a constitutional referendum on the 27th that will secure the power of the current pro-Russian elite even after Lukashenko is gone. The Russians will stay there to "help" for at least until the referendum passes.
