2. Ukraine showed that Russian declaration was copy/paste from their invasion into Georgia and Russians being lazy to even make up new lies.

3. Everyone else pretty much said that violating Ukrainian borders is bad, mkay.


That was it. Russia strategy is to look you in the eye and beg for peace as they shoot at you. This way it confuses the other people before they die. Morning is coming in EU soon, we'll see what the new day brings.

That wasn't the aim originally. For nations already at their mercy, the creation of Soviet Republics was like a bet on this catching on internationally with Germany and Hungary and countries all around the world. It wasn't so much absorption, but the countries being made into "equal" partners with Russia in a world revolution. In practice, this was not the case, and what making republics turned into under Stalin is a different discussion.

Stalin didn't believe in a world revolution spontaneously catching on and nations joining willingly, his theory of geopolitics involved revolution being only possible in countries ravaged by prolonged war. This is part of why he signed a pact with Germany, he wanted the Nazis fighting a long, dragged out war with France and England so they could fall to revolution later.

I did some reading of USSR Premiers, and I came to the conclusion that Stalin was perhaps the smartest ruler the USSR had, if not the smartest ruler of the 20th century. The Cold War started due to a fear of Stalin and Stalinism, and even though tensions remained there long after, the USSR lost its luster. From what I read about it, he seemed to be a smooth operator, out playing pretty much everybody at every stage of his life politically. The only person that really made him second guess himself was Tito. Aside from him, Stalin eventually got everything he wanted.

Instigating the Korean war was a master stroke that lives on to this day, basically keeping the U.S. outside of mainland East Asia, while making the Koreans and Chinese pay the price for it. His paranoia is often seen as a weakness, but I believe it was a projection. The man had so many spies and ops running that only he knew about that he assumed his enemies must as well. You got Conservatives wanting to emulate idk MLK or Liberals emulating Cuba or Nazis emulating well Hitler, but the real person any dissident group should study is Stalin. Man, I can agree with China, but Russia is not a first rate power by any means. If only you don't measure "power" by amount of nukes, but in this case Russia has nothing to do with it, it is all thanks to the USSR. Russian economy is non-existant, people are poor as fuck without any positive perspectives in their lifes. Everything you hear about "traditional values" is a total bullshit, Russia has one of the top places in the world with HIV spread, it is such a masive problem that you can surely say that Russia has fucking HIV pandemics. No trannies, no gays, no pedos lol but HIV rating is a fucking Afrika. If you look at stats, Russian demographics is terrifying, it simple dies out ( add here over 1 mln deathes from COVID for 145 mln country), they import migrants in collosal quantities to somehow replace the workforce. Russia has no modern technologies (maybe aside of some military shit but idk here), it doesn't manufacture any high-tech goods, simply trading off timber, oil and gas for anyone, especially China that receives it almost for free. In case of any large-scale war, Russia just has no population to fight for it, unless you mean 70+ grannies and a bunch of trolls on-line.

The only Russian power that really exists is that it is extremly bold and and can larp as an empire pretty well. There is a word in Russian "gopnik" which means a thug who attacks weaker for money and out of being too coward to attack anyone stronger. Typically you are not afraid of gopnik, you simply don't want to engage. Pootin doesn't care about its population because he doesn't need to care about being elected. What makes it particularly annoying is that there's very little that is going to happen in the immediate future, and even with a hypothetical engagement between NATO forces and Russia doesn't mean nuclear engagement from the get go. Some people really think that there would be 5 hours between a declaration of war and the apocalypse. No other form of escalation, no technological warfare, no attempt to diffuse the situation. Just War gets announced and the planet becomes a pile of rubble within the next day or two.

One thing I have noticed however is that WW3 is always 'about to happen' when a Democrat's in the white house.

Russia has a plentiful supply of poor or lower class individuals who will do as Russia bids. A sort of peasant or nomad class if you will. China has the same. These are people you can train to do all the dirty work while your more city educated enlisted man does roles such as artillery and whatnot.

The West lacks this completely. All their best troops are the ones currently enlisted and its indeed these best troops that the entire army and military strategy is build around. They have managed to create a domestic situation in the West where prospective conscripts that are not unhealthy (Which is a large portion, about a quarter to a third), wouldn't want to go or have been actively disincentivized to go. The only men who have been catered too without any qualms from the system are the LGBTQ groups, and Black Americans but in their mind not enough. Pretty much everyone else would rather go to jail or desert the first chance they get.

I'm not being dramatic either. Unless Russia physically attacks NATO soil, no one here is going to want to die for another country at the behest of a government they don't like.
