I've never forgotten it.
I think the biggest problem they have is relying on and putting all of their faith in "experts" who should be called "guessers" because it all boils down to making educated guesses for most things the experts cover that is not hard science. Most of the news articles I read at the beginning of this protest had experts opining on how this was going to play out quickly. I'd say that only one or two of the dozens of articles I read mentioned this going on longer than a weekend. It was clear to me from watching videos of the people participating that they were sincere in their beliefs and had the fortitude and faith to dig in as long as it took but I had no idea it would be allowed to go on as long as it did. For them to totally miss what was going to happen was just another thing adding to the pile of things that the experts were wrong on. They have decimated all trust in societal institutions and they keep pushing harder and harder to smash those little bits left into dust. I'm still in awe that they are that cocky and brave to continue pushing.

That's what it all boils down to. Somewhere, probably in Be Here Now, I picked up the lesson that you can't peel the skin off a snake until it's ready to shed it. There is nothing you can do but wait for the natural process to play out. That's the mindset to have when approaching friends. You may want to tell them about this extremely important thing because you love and care about them and want to help them, but they just won't get it no matter how passionate you are, how rational you are in your explanation, they just won't be receptive because the process has to play out on it's own. I've got plenty of friends who were all on board with getting vaxxmaxxed at the beginning of this whole thing who I voiced my concerns with but I never pushed them or said I was never going to be vaccinated. Externally, I never showed any judgement over what they chose. Internally, I thought they were idiots but I never told them that because I valued their friendship and wasn't willing to lose that. As time went on, I would share a study or two about masks not being effective, some of the problems with the vaccines, things that didn't add up, etc but I never pushed it on them or argued. Usually I'd make a humorous quip about it and move on. Eventually when they woke up to the whole thing, they thanked me for those little nudges. It grew us closer as friends and I didn't end up losing people I value in my life. There are other people I've cut all contact with but they are the type who just constantly want to talk about politics or what the latest outrage du jour is, I have no time for that.
