We’re happy to provide weapons and training but we’re not obligated to go to war for them. There’s no bilateral treaty, they aren’t part of a larger defense pact, and the American public is not going to support foreign intervention even against an obvious aggressor without either of those obligations. Best we might do is a no fly zone and we’re for sure going to bankroll their resistance if the country falls.

1. Taiwan's government is essentially the same one we were allied with against the Japanese during WWII, and we maintained that partnership throughout the Cold War.

Yeah, that's about the extent of it. Shame that ukrainian army is in such a shit state they can't really use it all that much. In past weeks there's been a lot of posturing about all the new weapon systems, supplies, support sent to Ukraine... You can send an army corps sized equipment run of tanks, apcs, whatever, and it still wont do much for an army that has such financial problems. Not to mention it's a largely conscripted force.

Activating a no-fly zone is getting militarily involved, and enforcing said no-fly zone will mean going to war. This is the same brainlet plan Hillary had for Syria.
