I desperately want to be wrong about this, but I don't see a rebirth of libertarian freedoms taking hold in the West forthcoming. We may be be entering the final form of global capitalism, and the neoliberal elites understand that in order to remain in power, the plebs must be under more forcible controls, by governments and corporations as the same entity. If might be less disappointing if we decided which form of authoritarianism we disliked the least.

Telco return cable modems were released in 94-95. The first gen used 28.8, second gen came with 56k. And yeah the hardware wasn’t cheap for consumers, but it was free for customers in the test market. Cable modems in general have existed in different forms since 1990. Before that we had teletext. Transfering data over cable signals pre dates the modern internet.
It’s a niche tech and most people never even had it as an option. But that doesn’t mean it wasn’t in use.

A few days ago, I woke up at around 3:00 AM, and right before I was about to continue sleeping, I heard some woman outside my building shrieking really loudly numerous times. That kept me up for around an hour and a half before I shut my eyes again.
Don't know why she was doing that, but in the past, I have heard of someone jumping off a building close to where I live. Wouldn't be surprised if she was screaming because she saw the splattered corpse of some poor soul, which was one of the mental images that kept me up before I went back to sleep.
I also remember seeing a dead body being carried out of my building on a stretcher as I was returning home several months back.
So, yeah. Keep an eye on the ones you care about. A simple "what's up" can really make a difference.

Wait. If they freeze a bunch of peoples bank accounts, why would they bother showing up to work? What happens if you take out hundreds or even thousands of people overnight, especially in the trucking industry? Wouldn’t that be counterproductive?

As a reformed downtown Ottawa bugman myself, the people of that city are uniquely terrible. I've always hated 90% of the sanctimonious chucklefucks there but I'm reaching levels of disgust I never thought possible.
For all their bitching about this being an occupation, a siege, terrorism, and whatever else, they've known from day 1 that they weren't in danger. They've secretly been enjoying this and using it as a safe, controlled oppressor to extract victim energy from for the past 3 weeks. I know this for a fact because I was one of them for 15 years.
But I've been keeping up with a few NPCs I know from Ottawa over Twitter, and it's obviously starting to dawn on some of them that it's now an occupied police state. The danger can't be turned off when it gets too scary this time. Pretty soon they're going to figure out that, not only have they been wrong this entire time, but they're the last to figure it out. They sincerely deserve whatever happens next.
My loved ones that were still living in big cities have finally accepted my schizo theories about globohomo, drained their bank accounts, and bugged out with me last week. Thank God I had an aneurysm or something a few years ago and turned into an anti-government conspiracy prepper. Now I'm just shitting my pants because I'm not armed (I know, stupid). We're all scared, but not one of us are sad to see this decadent, corrupt, steaming shitpile of "virtue" burn to the ground.

I think the reasoning is you go walk up to the police and say sorry, get down on your hands and knees and suck their dick, and maybe if they like you they'll maybe give your money back, but only after you grovel until their satisfied. And if not I guess they just arrest you.

Well they've already established the ability to mandate and punish - So if any of the trucking companies falls behind, the government can just mandate they fix the problem or get bent over by government fines.
It won't fix anything but they're going a bit drunk with power, and when all you got is a hammer...
