I hate that things have to be this way, but society is just too polarized now. It feels weird and cultish, but there is no more common ground. I don't find that I can just have an apolitical good time with just anyone anymore. Yes, I can have an apolitical good time with people with whom I am generally in agreement, but I find that anytime I'm spending time with someone on the left of the spectrum, something political inevitably comes up, and then they incessantly start needling me about it, even if I try to just change the subject or whatever. Maybe it's related to that stupid "silence is violence" ethos they've been promoting, which promotes a stronger "YOU'RE EITHER WITH US OR YOU'RE AGAINST US" worldview like Bush used after 9/11; it prevents the kind of polite detachment that allows for toleration of those with alternate views.
I used to have a more ideologically diverse set of friends from years ago when things weren't so insane, but I've cut ties with nearly all of them. After a certain societal level of polarization, I'd reach out to them to hang out to maintain the friendship, and it'd feel like we'd spend the whole time bickering, no matter how much I tried to change the subject or avoid that kind of mindless discord. Then after multiple sessions of that, I'd just ghost them, and they'd be annoyed or sad like there was still something of value there. I don't get it; are they just like that with everyone in their life, and it feels normal to them?
It's kind of sad to let people go, but if we really are barreling into hard times, then it is necessary to surround yourself with people you know have got your back. Not the kind of snakes reporting you to the police for difference-of-opinion thought crimes, catching you attending an event they don't like, or even just secretly posting chat/voice logs to hostile discord tranny servers.
Here's the freaky part: I went to school with a kid whose Dad was a pseudo-spook who worked in tech, but the important part is he was a really Ned Flanders type of Christian, though leaning left (imagine a cross between Ned Flanders and John Oliver, basically). Every now and then, it would be really unpleasant hanging out at this kid's house because his dad would get on some new kick like handing out massive mimeographed "pamphlets" about how rock music would turn you to Satan, or how Reagan was the antichrist planning to usher in the New World Order through nuclear chaos. Every time he would have this wild eyed, hectoring tone and pose, not so much aggressive, but disquietingly catatonic, shrill, monotonal, and impossible to silence, and you just knew any conversation from that point on would be literally worthless because all he knew was The Word and The Cause and anything you would say other than complete and total agreement and obedience was WRONG and EVIL.
This is precisely how the few people my spouse keeps in touch with from Blue Hell act. Every conversation, no matter how banal, ends up in this blind alley of revelatory faith and unshakable belief in The Cause, The Vaccine, How the Alt Right Are Killing Us, Why Are You Not Vaxxed. It is the exact same wild eyed religious fervor, and frankly I very rarely saw this from the right in the Bush years, even the religious right, about politics. I've never seen this kind of thought process and straight up hysteria in politics in my lifetime. It's not even a cult, it's a revelatory religion, and it's poisoning everything everywhere and spreading like some freaky mind virus. If you told an average MAGA guy that you thought Trump was a chucklefuck, the worst you might get is called a snowflake and told to go back to Commiefornia. If you calmly tell any Blue Anon, even the most basic bitch normie of them, that you were concerned about Trudeau's overreach or thought Biden was playing a dangerous game with Putin, they will more likely than not shriek, stammer, rage, flip their shit, then hammer you verbally like you were a Great Sinner who needed to be cleansed by a votive candle of Stacy Abrams. I've seen lefties whose politics were a replacement for a personality over the years, but there is a millenarian frenzy to this that I've never encountered outside of truly batshit religious types, that goes beyond cult behavior and mania into the realm of truly psychotic spiritual fervor. I don't know how we get out of this. Quite frankly, I think the left and even the WEF goons either aren't aware of how zombie'd their army is, or is aware and have no idea how the hell to flip the off switch or even find it. There's an apocalyptic mood to all of it that I just don't see ending well, or soon, and I also don't see it helping the globohomo cause but instead sending it straight off course, off the cliff, and into dangerously uncharted territory that no one, not even the bald straight-to-DVD Bond villain knockoff supposedly running this thing, will be able to navigate.
