Biden has really ousted himself out as a coward, moron took military action off the table almost immediately, Russia doesn't give a shit about sanctions and ever since the Crimea sanctions they've been building up to be as resistant as possible to them. Would not taking military action off the table be a bluff? Probably, and Putin would probably see through it. But it's hilarious how Obama's and Biden's "thin red line" is going to amount to only more sanctions that Russian leadership doesn't give a shit about. On a side note when I discussed this with friends they completely ignored this and said that Trump would be worse without caring to explain why sancutions should be the only choice we have.

The populations of these 'Republics' are subsidised by Russia, and the people see themselves as Russian. Hearts and minds warfare might be hard, too hard. Rather tactics could include just showing that neither the 'Republics' nor Russia cannot protect civilians, but doing the necessary might be beyond the soft woke CIA, although they once knew this School of Americas stuff back to front. All in Minecraft.
It will take time to undo 30 years of NATO conditioning but it's doable. If they managed to get Chechnya under relative control, most of Ukraine will not be a problem. Last 7 years were hard on the whole country.

Russia definitely gives a shit about sanctions. They still haven't recovered from the 2014 ones.

Lots of doomerisms on this thread. One must remember what we are actually talking about in regards to Russia.

Before you go out waving the Russian flag to own the Libs, you should remember what kind of a country we are talking about. Russia is a one-party dictatorship run by an oligarchic elite that considers their own people no better than cattle to the exploited for their own benefit. This elite was born at a time where every school taught the Marxist maxim of "religion is the opium of the masses". They just turned that around and are using a faux-traditional doctrine to keep their own population in line.

In terms of tyranny, this is no different from the globohomo wokeness of the West, it's just imposed on the people from a pseudo-traditionalist angle, where worshipping the state is the greatest virtue imaginable. The average Russian accepts this because he has been indoctrinated from birth to believe that everything the state does is right and everything one sees in the state-owned news is the whole truth. He doesn't have to think about politics, because the state does that for him. It's only when he personally gets his business forcefully foreclosed upon because a fat oligarch with a government job wants it for himself that he starts to reconsider his worldview.

The Russian government speaks a lot about the oppression of Russians and the right of self-determination for peoples, but their own country bans all types of separatism by imposing lengthy prison sentences for talking about separating from Russia, even incidentally. Nowhere in the world is the Russian more oppressed than in Russia,

Every time someone tries to get me to be sympathetic towards the USA all they do is convince me otherwise. At least if you're in Russia you know your place on the food chain, it seems a hell of a lot more honest than the anarcho tyranny we have in the west. I would rather be crushed under boot than live in constant confusion and terror that we have here because some people are allowed to terrorize citizens and some aren't depending on the paper bag test.

Gas is not going to go to $10/gallon. The US produces enough oil to meet its own demand and the president has unilateral power to control or even outright ban oil exports. Add in Canada and Mexico to the mix (neither of which are slouches when it comes to petroleum production), and things in North America will be fine.

The problem is that in order to act on this, Biden will essentially have to leave some US allies out in the cold. Which is not going to be an easy policy to swallow.

Just posted in the Biden thread that gas jumped about 38 cents a gallon so far in my area. May not see 10, but I wouldn't doubt 5-7 if they keep dickin around.

Isn’t Donbas a place that’s culturally more Russian?

Man, being stuck in the Cold War has got to be a bitch.
Not really aside from the extreme border. People tend to think “Russian speaking” means “Russian ethnically” or Russian sympathy. In reality, much of that area is bilingual, with Russian just well known due to the Soviet era. Culturally, it’s closer to the rest of Ukraine compared to anywhere around Moscow. This is the old Kievan Rus and Cossack land, the real frontiers along the steppe.

Did you COMPLETELY miss the part where this was a hypothetical situation in which the US invades China, completely unrelated to the situation in Ukraine?
It doesn't matter. China has Nuclear ICBMs that can flatten US cities in literally minutes. The hypothetical situation is retarded and bad. If the US landed in China and started fucking shit up, do you really think China wouldn't unleash the nukes?

And of those, fuckloads are aimed at our nukes. Same with ours at theirs. Then there’s interception systems, failure rates, and payloads. China loses a nuclear exchange with the US. They cease to exist as a nation.

Oh I think there'll definitely be short-term spikes in prices until the president decides to take charge of the situation. But the US oil industry prior to the demand collapse that came with the pandemic was already hitting break-even prices lower than what Saudi Arabia's Aramco could produce back in 2018. If Biden's hand gets forced, gas prices can absolutely be reeled back in over the next year or so... here in America.

The big challenge will be negotiating the international fallout from the decision to shutter oil exports.

If just one of those gets through it's going to be devastating and kill hundreds of thousands of Americans. The US is never going to risk landing in a country that is a Nuclear power and attempting to overthrow the government unless that country is presenting some sort of other extensional threat to the US.
