In general, I don’t tend to believe the stories of the so-called “deradicalized”. Apart from cases like Vexwerewolf, CultofDusty & Theryn Mayer in which their side switch is solidly confirmed (and even in those cases, I doubt their motivation for joining the enemy camp), I believe most of them were never remotely right-wing or even political and are lying about their past for the same reason people in the 80s lied about being ex-satanists & people in the 2000s (& even today) lied about being ex-gay. I think they portray themselves as that more so because they have been told usually by their echo Chambers that something normal like being white and wanting dreads or a pale person enjoying face paint is somehow fascist. What I find when I look into the past lives of old furries is that they weren't political in today's sense. They had a fair idea of what was going on, but outside of a few outspoken ones, weren't really "in it". LJ is a goldmine for this stuff, and you see pretty much all weren't that political in terms of talking about it all the god damned time. These days, a lot are glomming onto the modern SJW stuff and taking it a lot more seriously than interests in the past, but I think that's just a last desperate attempt to fit in with a fandom that went in a completely random direction since they were involved with it.
