So has Ukraine just, like, given up? If the Russians are occupying the capital within the first few hours it seems like the will to fight just ain't there.

No plan ever holds after first contact. Putin is clearly going for a kill shot but he's not guaranteed it. He knows that he can't afford a protracted conflict. He needs a fait accompli as fast as possible so he is taking huge risks. An airborne assault of the enemy capital a hundred kilometers beyond your FLOT is absolutely insane. Those airborne troopers can just as easily be cut off and killed if the Ukrainian military does organize a counter attack.

Russia is risking a defeat in detail here if they are really trying to bum rush Ukraine. We will know more by tomorrow.
