The borders have nothing to do with it. Russia literally borders the US in the east and the Baltic states are an even easier route to go through to invade. It has to do with resources and demographics first and foremost.

the baltic states being part of nato are indeed a major concern for russia. at the time they joined, russia was very weak and incapable of doing anything about it, and by the time they had recovered from the post soviet collapse troubles it was fait accompli. putin was willing to (begrudgingly) accept this situation, but made it clear that he would do anything in his power to prevent any further expansion of nato towards russia.

Most likely Russia imo. Home field advantage, plus the fact that they have the support of some parts of the Ukraine population (the rebels), plus the fact that any attempt to invade Russia has historically ended in failure.

Best case for NATO is they keep Ukraine from being overrun and we end up with an East/West Ukraine situation like postwar Germany

Barring a capitulation from the central government, they'll hold out for awhile. Not enough to keep the Russians from "winning", but enough to cause problems. We're still in the early stages

Today, February 24, at 5.00 the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation started intensive shelling of our units in the east, and also launched rocket-bomb strikes at the airports in Boryspil, Ozernomu, Kulbakinomu, Chuguev, Kramatorsk, Chornobayivtsi, and so on ož through military objects of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. At the same time, the aggressor launched artillery shelling of the territory and settlements of Ukraine along the state border.

Let's look at it analytically. Russia has utterly annihilated their naval and aerial forces. Meaning any ground resistance starts out with enemy air superiority and no supplies.

That alone is crippling, but it gets worse.

Russia is almost entirely specialized in defensive armament, and its main assault has been almost all spec ops. That leaves a -ton- of conscripted forces to set up those defenses in waves going forward so any counteroffensive will be met with entrenched defense.

So now we have a counter offensive against an entrenched defensive force that has aerial superiority and control of the main supply lines.


The only way Ukraine stands a chance is full backing from a foreign power... all of whom are waiting until tomorrow to do anything at all.

This shit might cause the fall of the Belgian goverment. There is currently a massive political clusterfuck happening here about energy. The green faggots want and almost did close our nuclear powerplants and want to replace them with gasplants so that in the future we can go full green energy. But this whole mess has proven that Russian gas isn't something you want to depend on. All parties except the green have changed sides on this issue and want to keep nulcear open, but the greens wont budge. So we will see...

That is an interesting thought. From observing everything in this thread so far since everything started it seems that the Ukrainian Air Force and Ukrainian Navy might be gone. If Ukraine still has the will to fight I don't think they can count much on conventional war tactics to win. Belarus also helping Russia doesn't help matters. Honestly the situation looks pretty hopeless at the moment and the only way I can see this being turned around at all is if Ukrainian forces try to drag things out and become guerillas. That or hope a foreign power intervenes.
