It has been stated by people on the far-right that Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn was a friend of Putin's when he was alive, and Putin's likely influenced by him, who states a Russian Empire needs to be rebuilt from Ukraine/East Ukraine, Belarus and Northern Kazakhstan. A speaker on Richard Spencer's twitter space said something along the lines that Putin is getting older, and is likely going to invade these countries to leave a legacy. This was just the other day.

Now Western Media is crying about a forced reform of the USSR, but it's likely that Putin wants to create a Pan-Russian state with the diasporas, and not push into former Eastern Bloc countries.

The Soviets did not like Western countries having nuclear power stations because, ultimately, any nation with nuclear power is just a step away from nuclear armament. There is a related concept called nuclear latency. The Soviets hoped that, by propagating anti-nuclear propaganda in adversarial states, it could make it more difficult for them to achieve Japan-tier nuclear latency. Germany shutting down their nuclear plants is a kind of nuclear disarmament by proxy.

Additionally, Germany has undertaken a huge transition to so-called 'green energy' like solar panels and windmills, called their Energiewende, which has been a huge failure. Hundreds of billions of dollars blown on basically nothing since 2000, with little to nothing to show for it, except an increased reliance on coal and natural gas due to the shuttering of nuclear plants. Probably a grand scam to enrich monied interests involved in that heavily subsidized non-viable industry.
