The correct response to Russia is Sanctions and to vastly expand NATO and offer those countries that have been sitting on the sidelines some great incentives to sign up immediately and alter their political landscape to qualify for NATO protection. And load them with nukes.

Really, all Putin is, is a cat-burglar who has stalked the neighborhood and NATO as the ADT of protection that hasn't been able to sell security systems has a real chance to use fear to force these other countries to switch.

One can look at Russia and fear their expansion, or use it as a tool to expand our interests. Glass is half full, half empty.

No doubt China will play a leading role in finance and sanction avoidance for Russia as the sanctions bite and the USA will be forced to address the real threat - China - as they play back-up for Russia on finances and sanctions.

As for Europe, it is time to align with Saudi for the meantime and allow their green pipelines to run through to Europe to cut off Russia and China so they can be chocked in a few years.

Yeah if the Russians are doing this sort of thing, they must be fairly confident that Ukraine is unable to field any fighters.

I am pretty certain that this is gonna devolve into Ukrainians hiding in buildings with anti-tank guns and rifles taking pot shots at Russian soldiers until the Ukrainian government ultimately give up and surrender, at this point the Ukrainian government is allowing the Ukraine forces to go down with the ship, this could take a long time to clear up.

Winning every battle does not mean they'll win the war. Cutting off international trade completely can absolutely wreck the russian economy. Imagine the panic of the oligarchs as their homes and bank accounts in the west get seized....

On the other hand, the west has its hands tied completly, its intellectual sphere subverted decennia ago by KGB agents, and the resulting policies (economic, political and military) have absolutely destroyed any sovereign acting capability they had left.

I have to say, I find the moralising and screaming about international law/justice/whatever from world leaders pretty funny in all of this.

Don't know about the rest of you but I'm old enough to remember NATO bombing Yugoslavia into submission. I know they have to put on the moralising show for everyone but it's just a little bit funny for me personally.
