it's not ideological, whatever putin pulls as excuse. or another example, not even the nazis glassed the countries they took over - because what would be the point (not saying some shit will happen, that's inevitable, but it's far from a ransacking and pillaging mongol horde).

ukraine will probably fold before/during the weekend, putin will then declare it russian territory/vassal state whatever, the west continue posturing and most people will have forgotten about it in a month unless the MSM thinks it will still generate clicks and ratings. doubt much will change for the average ukrainian in the long run anyway.
No. Russia will stop at the Dneiper and destroy Ukraine's ability to fight back. Occupation would be absolute suicide which is why Putin was very clear they wouldn't do that. The CIA has been training vampire units and burying caches of stingers and javs for literal years. If there's anything the CIA is actually good at it's training asymmetrical warfare groups. Occupation would mean lots of blown up military equipment and dead Russians. Unacceptable numbers.

Russia will be able to take over Urkaine pretty easily, but holding it will be another matter.
Population in it, will not be friendly towards Russia.

Oh, hey, it's Task Force Z again. My money's on a Guards Motor Rifle Brigade. From their first sighting at the Crimean border, they've advanced about 70 kliks to the banks of the Dneiper in 10-12 hours.

Hot damn, I found some video to back up a rumor I'd seen earlier, about a power plant being taken. And it involves more whirlybirds, for the aircraft afficionados.

Helicopters close in on the Kakhovkha Hydroelectric Power Plant on the Dnieper.

This whole thing is truly terrible, but God I love war footage in HD.

Anyway, first video has a true and honest Mi-24 Hind looking like it's about to touch down and drop its troop compliment off. After that the only helos you see are Mi-28 Havoc's, which are pure ground attack/CAS; no doubling as a troop transport like the Hind. 2nd video has Mi-8's with rocket pods touching down and dropping off the air cav.

From what I understand, only in the East. Additionally, the IRA has shown that you don't need to be in a mountain to run Guerilla ops, especially if you have weapons flowing from Poland and Ukraine.
Funny thing, the IRA sniper kills got bad enough that Britain had to move its troops around via air. But then again Britain was restricting a lot of its military power, Russians would just bomb the fuck out of the hills.

A livestreamer is up in Kherson, which is one of the places that's been getting shelled the last 6 hours. Looks like he's got a camera mounted on his balcony.

Military airplane caught flying overhead in an actual non-potato resolution. Title translates to "RF here already?" I assume RF == Russian airforce? Wish I could understand what he's saying in the video well, but my Russian skills are badly out of practice. Really regretting that tonight.

Video comments reference the pilot who fled to Romania.
Here's a note:

The Ministry of Defense of Romania reports that at the beginning of the seventh morning local time, the Su-27 aircraft of the Ukrainian Air Force crossed the air borders of the country. To intercept the Ukrainian fighter, two F-16 fighters of the Romanian Air Force were raised into the sky.
The summary of the military department of Romania states that the Romanian military pilots, having flown up to a foreign fighter, carried out its identification. Further, the Ukrainian crew was informed of the need to comply with the commands of the Romanian side.
Ultimately, the Air Force Su-27 aircraft was escorted to a military airfield near the city of Bacau. We are talking about the 95th military base, which is operated not only by the Romanian Air Force, but also by the aviation of foreign NATO states. Not so long ago, several aviation assets of the countries of the Western military bloc were deployed there.
The Romanian Ministry of Defense reports that during the interception of the Ukrainian fighter, all necessary measures were taken, including legal ones.
Additionally, it is reported that in connection with the situation in Ukraine, Romanian troops are on special alert. Monitoring of activities in the adjacent territory is carried out. The security of the American missile defense position area in Deveselu has been strengthened.
It turns out whether the appearance of the Su-27 of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Romanian airspace was a mistake of the pilot, or whether he deliberately took the fighter out of the airspace of Ukraine.

This is also before you had technology to near instantly pinpoint the location of the sniper via a microphone arry and UAVs

Fair enough, I was just responding to what that guy had said. But overall, it just doesn't seem like there's a lot of will in Ukraine to fight back, a good chunk of the country wants to be in Russia anyway and how many of the rest of them actually want to fight a guerrilla war instead of just getting on with their lives?

Why do Americans always shit up any corner of the Internet with their sexual desires of women in uniform when a military event occurs? It's bad enough when Israeli actions take place and people spam pictures of attractive, selectively chosen (for propaganda purposes mind you!) female soldiers. This thread isn't about lusting over some woman with a rifle, mutts.

Putin said a lot of stuff. But he also made it very clear that the intent is to demilitarize Ukraine and that isn't really possible without taking the whole country. You are also underestimating Russian ability to run COIN operations, they are actually way more skilled at it than the US. Even bringing up Afghanistan, Russia's puppet state there lasted 2 years after the Soviet Union left. America's puppet state collapsed before the last of the US personnel even made it out of that shithole. Or hell, look at what went down in Kazakhstan recently. Russia cleaned that shit up in like a week and went home.

Historically, the population of Russia isn't friendly towards Russia. They are a lot like the Scottish in that regard.
