Regarding Lindsay, the truth that got lost because people like Lily don't care about context is:

Lindsay: makes a comparison between ATLA and Raya the last dragon saying that they are structurally similar
Public: concludes that Lindsay thinks animations inspired by Asian cultures are the same thing and decides in the worst possible interpretation that she is racist
Lindsay: WTF, that's not what I said
Public: double down on accusations attracting everyone who doesn't even know what started the discussion and just hates Lindsay for other reasons just to repeat the MO of the cancellation cycle.

I don't like Lindsay but this practice that her audience does will always be disgusting

and finally, the "white favoritism problem" is not nuance, a show has non-white characters and white characters if whites are given more focus regardless of context one can accuse of white favoritism

I've been hesitant to jump on the 'Lily is racist against Asians' train because it's easier to conclude that she's just stupid and willfully ignorant. Although evidence does keep mounting.

And here, I realized--

Two weeks ago, a massive video breakdown of Raya and the Last Dragon was dropped by a Xiran Jay Zhao, where she and about a dozen other Southeast Asian creators (or creators of Southeast Asian descent) wrote up individual essays about aspects of Raya's inspiration that were culturally incorrect, and how Disney used it to manipulate and virtue-signal to its audience.

I don't actually recommend it. It's not very well put together (it's basically hours of powerpoint presentations narrated by people with bad microphones) and I find them extremely entitled to their culture appearing in a movie that never promised to be about Southeast Asia in the first place. But it's out there if you want to see for yourself.

But it starts with a discussion about the Lindsay Ellis drama and what happened there, and how the participants pretty roundly defend Lindsay-- and not only do they defend her now, but they defended her when it happened, because a lot of 'well-meaning white liberals' were the ones that pounced on her and ate her alive while actual Southeast Asians trying to get into the discussion were also swallowed up in the harassment and told to shut up and stay in their lane.

This is just part of that ongoing conspiracy theory. Lindsay hasn't said anything since her woe-is-me letter (which is old news at this point), but these uppity Asians made a big takedown where they spend a bit of time DEFENDING her and calling out the shitheads (like Lily) who decided to trample over the group they were allegedly defending because they were just looking for an excuse to eat Lindsay alive.

The funny thing is, we've literally gone over this before with "why doesn't Steven just kill the Diamonds?". I noted a while ago that while the Diamonds were clearly authoritarian dictators, they had the undying allegiance of their subjects. If the Diamonds were killed, they would gain martyr status and the other Homeworld gems would probably destroy Earth in retaliation. It doesn't matter that they wouldn't have the leadership of the Diamonds, they would still have the numbers, technology, and motivation.
Lily lives in an incredibly simplistic world void of cause and effect. Things don't just magically improve when you kill the Big Bad.

By the way, on the video about Raya from Xiran Jay Zhao that I linked a couple of pages ago they made the point that if Lindsay had compared the cultures from ATLA to Raya, instead of the story structure, then it would have been racist. ATLA being based on East Asia cultures and Raya Southeast makes them fundamentally different culturally speaking, but imply that they're also the same on that aspect would be the same thing as claiming that there's no difference between the cultures. If not racist, at the very least we can concede that's a deeply ignorant statement to make.

In shorter words, Liliana's doing there the exact same thing that would have made Lindsay's tweet racist on the eyes of some Southeast Asian viewers and that is what we call irony.
