What could the administration have done differently? I don't really know, I'm no foreign policy genius. They said they were the foreign policy geniuses that could "whip" Russia and "beat Putin like a drum." A vote for Donald Trump was a vote for Vladimir Putin, but a vote for Biden would successfully contain Russia and keep them from doing bad stuff. That's what the representative republic thing is about, right? We don't need to be the competent experts. They're in charge to be the competent experts. They claimed to be the competent experts on Russia again and again as one of their chief selling points to be elected but the administration bungled it and Russia took more territory.
How could this have been prevented? Fuck if I know, but they said they could prevent it, and they couldn't.

No restructuring, rearming, refitting, or retraining the military in the YEAR that led up to this.

Not even a REFORGER announcement.

Plenty on Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity replacing the meritocracy of the US military. Plenty on Emma's two moms. Plenty of witch hunts for white supremacists. Plenty on loyalty witch hunts. Plenty on vaccine mandates.

Damaged gear, low ammunition supplies, aging body armor, vehicles in disrepair, more time spent in SHARP briefings than in training.

The Diversity PT test showing the complete failure of the modern DIE military, with apparently the military going back to the 80's test because 80% of female troops couldn't pass the new one and the new one led to record out of shape.

As one who lived and fought the Cold War (yes, actively hunted Russian subs on a daily basis), I couldn't agree more. We were trained as a fighting team, and if you couldn't cut it physically or mentally, you were told to pack up your fee-fees and GTFO. What the military has become is disgraceful.

While I'm no fan of war, I am a fucking American and a patriot and seeing this kind of absolute incompetence in Afghanistan and now Ukraine is further proof of the decline of America, from the top down. I honestly dread the day some real shit hits the fan because I think we no longer have the ability to simply kick ass and fuck taking names. Oh sure, we can drone strike this dipshit or that dipshit, but a real sustained conflict? Nope. Nobody has the stomach for it. Too many civilians might die! Uh, that's was war is. I never served, but I do have family active in the Air Force. You summed this up beautifully. And sadly, MANY people tried warning others only to be called racist, homophobic, and ableist.
