President Joe Biden on Tuesday said that the United States will impose sanctions “far beyond” the ones that the United States imposed in 2014 following the annexation of the Crimean peninsula.

“This is the beginning of a Russian invasion of Ukraine,” Biden said in a White House speech, signaling a shift in his administration’s position. “We will continue to escalate sanctions if Russia escalates,” he added.

Russian elites and their family members will also soon face sanctions, Biden said, adding that “Russia will pay an even steeper price” if Moscow decides to push forward into Ukraine. Two Russian banks and Russian sovereign debt will also be sanctioned, he said.

Also in his speech, Biden said he would send more U.S. troops to the Baltic states as a defensive measure to strengthen NATO’s position in the area.

Russia shares a border with Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

A day earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered troops to go into the separatist Donetsk and Lugansk regions in eastern Ukraine after a lengthy speech in which he recognized the two regions’ independence.

Western powers decried the move and began to slap sanctions on certain Russian individuals, while Germany announced it would halt plans to go ahead with the Russia-to-Germany Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

At home, Biden is facing bipartisan pressure to take more extensive actions against Russia following Putin’s decision. However, a recent poll showed that a majority of Americans believe that sending troops to Ukraine is a “bad idea,” and a slim minority believes it’s a good one.

All 27 European Union countries unanimously agreed on an initial list of sanctions targeting Russian authorities, said French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, and EU foreign affairs head Josep Borell claimed the package “will hurt Russia … a lot.”

Earlier Tuesday, Borell asserted that Russian troops have already entered the Donbas region, which comprises Donetsk and Lugansk, which are under the control of pro-Russia groups since 2014.

And on Tuesday, the Russian Parliament approved a Putin-back plan to use military force outside of Russia’s borders as Putin further said that Russia confirmed it would recognize the expanded borders of Lugansk and Donetsk.

“We recognized the states,” the Russian president said. “That means we recognized all of their fundamental documents, including the constitution, where it is written that their [borders] are the territories at the time the two regions were part of Ukraine.”

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Putin said that Ukraine is “not interested in peaceful solutions” and that “every day, they are amassing troops in the Donbas.”

Meanwhile, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday morning again downplayed the prospect of a Russian invasion and proclaimed: “There will be no war.”

“There will not be an all-out war against Ukraine, and there will not be a broad escalation from Russia. If there is, then we will put Ukraine on a war footing,” he said in a televised address.

The White House began to signal that they would shift their own position on whether it’s the start of an invasion.

“We think this is, yes, the beginning of an invasion, Russia’s latest invasion into Ukraine,” said Jon Finer, the White House deputy national security adviser in public remarks. “An invasion is an invasion and that is what is underway.”

For weeks, Western governments have been claiming Moscow would invade its neighbor after Russia gathered some 150,000 troops along the countries’ borders. They alleged that the Kremlin would attempt to come up with a pretext to attack, while some officials on Monday said Putin’s speech recognizing the two regions was just that.

But Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told reporters Tuesday that Russia’s “latest invasion” of Ukraine is threatening stability in the region, but he asserted that Putin can “still avoid a full blown, tragic war of choice.”

Except it didn't happen retard. You are missing the point. We didn't even need to worry about this when Trump was president, not even needing to get to the point of a Trump administration response.

"This Trump would have been worse in theory!!!" narrative is some of the lamest attacks on Trump I have ever seen, and that's saying something after the years of stupid attacks I've seen.
I think that's only true because of how borderline schizophrenic Trump's response to things were. Putin was very much aware Trump might not actually pussy out because "muh nukez" like a lot of faggots seem to be doing ("Oh noes, Russia has nukes!!! That means we can't defend our allies otherwise we'll get nuked!!", because apparently no one remembers MAD anymore, nor the fact that the US literally can shoot ICBMs down now). I'm not a retarded Russiagater, but he does like to suck Putin's cock. However, if it came to this during his presidency, I could totally see him ordering drone strikes against Russian troops as they entered Ukraine. I know he made Russia buttmad over this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_Shayrat_missile_strike

Getting Ukraine into NATO was never going to happen

It would be like Mexico joining the CCP alliance. The US would never stand for a hostile nation on its direct borders. Putin has many of the same thought plus he needs access to a warm water port for his navy and commercial shipping to use as well as more control over the oil and gas routes going east to west.

I do believe he dun fuked up here as IF (big if) the NATO countries ban together to push actual sanctions on Russia as it could cripple their entire economy in a year or two no matter how much cheap shit China buys. Russia needs the EU customers to buy their raw resources as China doesn't really need a lot of what Russia typically exports.

However...it already looks like the "direct, powerful and devastating" sanctions Biden was talking about just this morning are already getting watered down. Reading over the list of good and embargoes its mostly shitty consumers stuff. All of Russia's major exports like steel, aluminum and gas are exempt cause the EU needs them quite badly to keep their own economies from going down the toilet. so it looks like they're going to be ever so silently swept under the rug while the MSM goes all damage control for Biden saying how strong a leader he is..blah blah blah. Pretty much par for the course as far as the lefty MSM goes.

So basically its going to be all tough talk for the Political hero's but life goes on. Ukraine is just shit outa luck for independence for the next generation or two. But honestly life under Russia may be a saving grace. At least the cultural rot that's pouring out of the western nations won't get a further toe hold into their culture. So some bad some good. And it's not like Russia is some Islamic Calphiate who will radically change the lives of the average Ukrainian, once the war is over life will go pretty much back to normal.

I said this in another thread, i think, but one thing I think most people can agree on is that Trump is aggressive enough that Putin would have had to expect an armed retaliation if he fucked around. Too many countries are dependent on Russian gas and other stuff to actually clap back at him in any meaningful way.

Of course they got watered down. Germany in particular needs Russian gas, and the US lacks the capital to force the Saudis or whoever else to export more for them, and we can’t produce more here because the exact first thing he did in office was nuke an oil pipline from orbit. The only sanction of consequence would lead to at least 2 countries freezing to death.

Jimmy Kimmel called Tucker Carlson a “penis” for suggesting that Biden got played by both Putin and (possibly) Zelensky regarding the Russia-Ukraine fallout.

I know it’s Jimmy Kimmel and he’s been a sellout for years now, but I honestly thought I was watching a scene out of an Adam Sandler movie.

I did not think this was real until I saw it. :stress:

You listen here Putin you Vodka drinking fuck. We have Joshua Connor Moon on our side. We have 4chan. We have weaponized autism. Fuck with us and find out
Null has stated on MATI more than once he might have to host in Russia because of how shit the US is becoming to freedom of speech, and as for 4chan, it's mostly just BBC porn these days. I'm just sitting on the sideline and siding with the winner.

I was browsing through Youtube today and I saw this

Lol I mean yeah, sure, I would prefer a "fuck you nigger, eat me" response rather than Obama 2.0 thinking that sanctions are going to do anything more than delay the inevitable
That's ironic since Biden was the one bragging about being tough on Russia and bring them to heel. That was one of his big campaign promises. So many people, news companies, and media sources said Biden would push Putin's shit in but so far they're just pussing out. The one thing that could bring Russia to heel, sanctions, are being watered down and so far Western reactions to Russia is just waving their fists at them. It's ironic to think that Trump, the guy every vaguely left-wing news organization called a Russian puppet, would have retaliated much harder.

Russia won't host null until he solves the ho-ho-holocaust dilemma. Say what you want about our free speech issues but at least we don't have government agencies threatening the site over a hitler meme.
