How do you fix an open wound?

This is pretty helpful.

for smaller cuts: disinfect then mix a small amount of unflavored gelatin with water and put a small amount on the wound. Gelatin is pure collagen, which is what your skin is composed of. It will help it heal quicker. It's also kind of sticky, so it helps close wounds better. Put a bandage on it afterwards. Don't use super glue for wounds. The oils in your skin causes most resin-based super glues to slip off your skin after some time despite what you may think. Only dummies use super glue.

one of my relatives was a nurse and always had a first aid kit with unflavored gelatin in it. I used this trick when I had a serrated pocket knife which closed on my finger and nearly cut it very close to the bone, and it healed quicker than I thought it would when I dressed it correctly (and regularly).

If you're a teanny, you don't, you just dilate. Preceded by copious coping and seething.

If you got it the way you should, a small accident doing manly work in a manly job, you tie your bandana around it and get back to chopping down trees because time's a wasting and that lumber won't harvest itself.

We learned some of this in CLS; the "if an object's sticking into your body, leave it in" thing has been a petpeeve of mine ever since, since in every movie or video game, characters always yank that shit out as quickly as possible.

Also, I love how they've got a whole page on how to counter police attacks:

Where There Is No Doctor is a classic; it started when hippies were actually trying to be useful, and has been updated continuously ever since.

Police violence section aside, it's a lot more "so you're doing your best without much training in a situation with few supplies" than PUNCH ROCKGROIN'S DITCH MEDICINE FOR REAL MEN.

Where There Is No Doctor does assume you can get some medications that would probably be OTC in a sunny third-world country, but would have to be grey-market or fish mox in the USA. There's a lot more information on pellagra than on gunshot wounds.

Where Women Have No Doctor is full of great tips for childbirth after the apocalypse.

They also have a book on how to help disabled children be as functional as possible, or at least not get pressure sores, with great advice on how to make your own mobility aids in the field:
