Isn't it stronker to show you can do it during the day?
Also, doing it openly makes for better optics with the locals and makes it much more difficult for NATO/US propagandists to lie about who was where and when.

Follow up on my post a few min ago with the dead soldier -- Telegram claims this is actually a Russian soldier disguised in a Ukrainian uniform. That rumor is back, it seems.

Changed into the form of National Guardians and the people who have gone on the "Arlen-10" in the Kiev Oboloni. Nobody will show individuals and documents. DRG is still secret. And convenient.

The Ukrainians could be expected to some limited success against isolated or advanced units of the Russian Army on the first day. But rather than whole "columns" being destroyed, its more like patrols. The attack on the airport outside the capital also seems to have been a real live disaster for them. But that big "column" that is moving down the highway toward Kiev
is a whole different matter. I don't see them being able to stop that.
