While they were on track to joining the EU and NATO, their corrupt incompetent government that lead to a literal TV comedian getting elected dragged it's feet for too long, and now Russia is taking back its clay. This isn't like Afghanistan where our long term vassal that had a lot of significance to the USA both domestically and internationally folded in under a month. Yeah, not "the best look" for America, Europe, NATO, and the EU. But all this talk of Putin going on a Third Reich invasion spree or that this all means Taiwan is doomed (not that I rule out a Chinese invasion, its just unlikely given China's situation) is fucking retarded nonsense.

This is a country where the current president was largely elected because he played the President on a TV sitcom for fuck sake. Are you really going to risk the ruin of Europe and possible nuclear oblivion over a country that does that? At least Trump has been President baiting since the 80's.
Don’t forget that the other big reason invading is that the US convinced the Ukraine to disarm so that they could bait the Russians.

Lol. The US really did fuck over the Ukies.
Russia and Ukraine combined provide 25% of the world's wheat and half its fertilizer
They do but to think that Americans will starve because of this is deluded. America is self sufficient.

China is the real threat. Russia should join our team.
Lmao. Do you really don't know about the China and Russia's agreement, that if either goes to war, the other joins as an ally, do you? If anyone attacks Russia (even as defence), then China will intervene, and vice versa.

That's not to say that China isn't a threat, you can see new camps popping up each day, even via google maps and earth (arguably the most censored map viewing tool so far).

This all reminds me of the Cuban missile crisis, but much less severe, despite everyone (even japan, lmao) speaking about some "sanctions". Which really makes me laugh, imagine attemping to sanction the one who brings you Gas and Electricity and not expecting for it to either close the furniture or to raise up the price.
In their defense, their worries about invasion from the west are not without merit. We do all remember Hitler’s Eastern Front, right? Napoleon anybody? The first thing any European petty dictator does is drive East to Moscow with delusions of Supreme Grandeur. Nobody knows why, not even Russian’s actually like Moscow.
In war not everything (if any) is dictated by logic. conquering Russia now is more like owning a pair of airpods: You gain nothing (infact, you even lose more than you gain), but it's a status symbol and will destroy your enemies' morale. (But good luck keeping it and mantaining it)

There's certainly enough adventurists out there that want to experience the thrill of war
Well, they better hurry then, since they have only 72 hours left according to Biden. But considering "3 months before Taliban takes over", they have 10.

the most idiotic part in all of that is retards not understanding what's gonna happen when you fuck a country so hard it breaks . can't really blame them, most of those retarded zoomers only know about the fall of the soviet union and it's aftermath from hollywood movies, and no one gives a shit about libya.
My bias should be obvious so take what I say with a grain of salt I guess but most anti russian sentiment I've seen among Russians is from young zoomers heavily influenced by Western media or wealthy people living cozy in the west. They bitch and moan about how terrible the country is and how bad Putin is from behind their high spec gaming pc, making money streaming on the internet. Go ask your fucking parents about empty shelves in shops in the 90s, not getting paid for months on end and having to work 3 or 4 side gigs just to feed your kids. The west would love a buck broken Russia again and that's your future if it happens and it turns into a US puppet to siphon resources and wealth to America.

>The Russian news outlet Baza has shared this video, saying that it shows 10,000 Chechen security officials in Grozny preparing for deployment to Ukraine.

Unfortunate if true, I have family who fought in Chechnya and wouldn't wish a bunch of Chechens on anyone.

You know, I feel a little sorry for Zelensky. Just a little though.

You yankees don't know who he really is, so let me explain - he started his career back in 90's at a popular slav show where students from different universities compete in something akin to stand-up comedy and usually all of them try their best to suck up to the show's host.
After this he went on TV and had his show which on the one hand was a political satire, but on the other you could see that he favored one politicians after others and after the coup in 2014 he really toned it down and switched to shittalking Russia. Then when Ukraine attacked it's eastern territories it seems that he was almost drafted, which is strange since he has the money, so he would have no problem to just pay off, but it seems that he even fled the country for some time. They allowed him to escape draft, but in exchange he was a free-of-charge assclown for the military and nazi battalions (yes, real nazis, not the ones that SJWs see everywhere). He even went to the warzone to entertain them.
But luckily for him his bootlicker routine began to pay off, since one of the oligarchs decided to use him in his battle against another oligarch, who was the president at the time. He gave him money and allowed to start his own comedy show on his channel, where he carefully made fun of the current president, but to be fair this is what everyone were doing in secret. Slowly, but surely he built some kind of people's love, since they were too retarded to understand that it's all for the show and considered him to be stunning and brave. So when elections came, that oligarch used Zelensky as a talking head, since he had enough popularity because of his shitty TV-show. He even didn't stop to play that character in debates, but to be fair he didn't need to do much to win, since the people voted not for him per se, but "anyone but that old fucktard", so of course he won.
However, did he do anything differently? Of course, not, he even went further, since he had no will of his own. Hell, he didn't even try to prosecute the ex-president like he promised he would do during the campaign.
And now after taking a torch from the man who started this war, he is going to be the one, who lost it. Miserably. While the ex-president already fled to Britain - the second best home for foreign war criminals after Canada. Because this is how life of a professional bootlicker ends.

Thanks for the summary, I was wondering what had happened to Petro Poroshenko "The Chocolate King" and who this Zelensky was. I haven't followed the situation in Ukraine in many years, I assumed Poroshenko was still running around somewhere.

Lol. The US really did fuck over the Ukies.

The Ukies who gave up the nuclear weapons gave them up because Moscow told them to. The people who ran Ukraine in the 1990s were tied at the hip to the Russians
and followed whatever orders they were given. Ukraine didn't have a true independent of Russia government until like 2005.

Apparently, there are still plenty of Ukrainians in fighting shape in the Southeast of the country. Mariupol is still held by the Ukrainian 53rd Brigade and the DPR troops are mounting an offensive against them. There have been so many different Ukrainian fortifications in the area that the People's Militia has had a hard time dealing with defending Ukrainian troops.

Western Press: Wear brightly colored vests and clothes with 'PRESS' patches all over the goddamn place. Hide behind walls when nothing going on.

Gopnik Press: Wear gopnik-made multicam and meander freely around armored convoys in an active warzone.

I'm not saying the Russians are smart, but I am saying they're nothing short of fucking interesting and ballsy.

I don't think that but it will put further upward pressure on food prices when inflation in the US has already been, as the kids say, totally lit, right before a midterm election with an unpopular president. Not something the democratic establishment would like to see if they could avoid it.

It's what he did in Georgia, it's what he did in Kazakhstan earlier this year, it's what he's most likely doing in Ukraine. The president of Ukraine is a pro EU jewish comedian that soros paid for to win. Idk know is he actually won the election. This looks like, despite what the Western media is saying, Putin is taking out the trash and going to make sure Ukraine has a neutral goverment or a pro Russian goverment. It's why people claiming he wants the return of the Soviet empiren doesn't make sense to me. Why didn't he keep Georgia? Why didn't he keep Kazakhstan?

It's pure copium and a lack of understanding of the situation. Russia has been dealing with sanctions for almost a decade, they've been forced to be somewhat self sufficient because of it. You have their ministers openly saying it now with one recently saying "We don't have French cheeses or Swiss chocolate but we can make our own that is just as good with stolen recipes". Is that exactly true? Probably not, but the sentiment is. The sanctions aren't doing jack shit and will probably be dropped before too long due to how much Europe needs that sweet sweet Russian energy cock to suck on since they don't have any power of their own.

I wake up today to BBC notifications that Kiev is surrounded by Russians and preparing for a siege. It took less than 3 days for Russia to get to the capital. The Germans of yesteryear would be proud.
...ok but how does Putin intend to permanently keep whatever he supposedly wants?

If he wants to get rid of Zelensky, what's to stop his successor from getting ousted immediately? Do the Russians intend to re-install or replace any puppet they put in place?

If he wants just the eastern half of the Ukraine, does he intend to keep an occupying force there and either annex that territory outright or form an Eastern Ukrainian state with its own leader? If so, he's going to have to keep troops there to prop up the new state.

This is what I don't get. What's the long-term strategy here? Do the Russians really intend to essentially occupy all of or part of the Ukraine for the next decade or two?

Oh, I think it’s masterful: it’s isn’t Shitter-in-Chief’s fault that the prices are skyrocketing, it’s those damned dirty Russians and their invasion.

I meant the conventional armament. The US wanted a soft target to embolden Putin and then BTFO him but now they don’t have a way to intervene so the Ukraine is fucked.

They tried their anti-color revolution techniques in Kazakhstan and it worked a treat

Occupation vs puppet your guess is as good as mine but they could try the former if they were inclined, it would be costly but they may be OK with bearing the cost

Comedy option of taking the east and handing over the "difficult" west to the poles and hungarians
