Casualty numbers are going to be wildly inaccurate on both sides right now - Easy to claim as a kill what was only a wound, or find a burnt out IFV with nobody in it and conclude "musta all died and had the bodies recovered". Better metric to watch would be vehicular losses, as they're not easily replaced and armor is very important to fighting in terrain like the Ukraine has.

This isn't goatfuckers and terrorism - This is state vs state war. No shit they're going to raise civilians into a militia - they have the arms for it, and they're defending against an invasion. Geneva conventions even have a carveout for ununiformed militia in defensive war.

Honestly I won't expect accurate casualty figures until after the war is over. Both sides obviously know the value of propaganda and "glorious victories". Neither Ukraine or Russia will go around talking about how many soldiers they lost.
