Too many people on social media are offering their opinions and doomposting about the war in Ukraine. It's really clear most people have no idea about geopolitics nor actually care. They all want to score points and seek comfort in their echo chambers.
Especially Americans. Will we be dragged into war in Europe? Maybe. Crying about it isn't going to help. I've had family members texting me asking what's going on, because hysteria has overtaken rational thought, and they can't believe what they are hearing/seeing. Good God, I'm no military expert, but even a cursory understanding of recent history makes a few things clear.
1) Ukraine will fall. I hope they give Russia hell, but they cannot best their military without foreign intervention.
2) Russia will hurt from sanctions, but it won't dissuade Putin from claiming his prize and potentially keep moving. His own people may protest in the streets, but it will most likely be for naught.
3) Life will go on. Even if Putin has lost the plot, he wouldn't dare resort to nuclear war. I cannot imagine his generals would allow him to destroy all of humanity. Proxy wars will abound as they did during the Cold War, but by and large, Americans are going to be fine.
It's pretty ridiculous to see Americans bitching and moaning about this, as if our country is being invaded. I appreciate the level-headedness of some posts here, if only because they prove not everyone is a complete fucking idiot.
Slithering away, now. If I'm wrong about any of this, idgaf.
