Am I the only one who feels like we've been long overdue for a war? As tragic as literally everyone who has empathy or morality says this is I honestly feel like we needed a semi- important war for a while to... I dunno shake off some of this generations stupidity? I don't fucking know all I feel right now is that this war is a breath of fresh air for the first time in years.
I don't think it would do any good at all. The wrong people always end up being sent to war and the wars are always hijacked by people with political agendas.

I vaguely thought that losing a war in Afghanistan and having to do a humiliating withdrawal might change something mentally in the country. But it had no effect at all.
People just blamed either Biden or Trump for what happened and moved on to the next thing. The other consideration is just how bad the leadership in Washington
is right now and in particular the leadership at Department of Defense and within the military.

Also, apparently, Rosgvardija (Russian national guard directly loyal to Putin, essentially a Russian SS-type organization) has been spotted in Ukraine.

Here are some casualties they had. Very NSFW:

I think this was posted earlier in the thread. I was unaware Putin effectively has his own paramilitary force, but on another note, these guys got incinerated.

if they're not getting some SERIOUS hazard pay bonus, then it just ain't worth it.
Those who do work are likely working to defend the city. I may dislike my country but we are not Russians.

I have given it some thought and despite having basically most of my family being slightly or pro-Russian at this point, if I wasn't lucky enough to not leave back home on the 17th, I'd join the territorial defence. Better to get shot rather than wait for a Russian scumbag taking you.

But I have someone to live for, so yeah, I'm still alive.

There are a some notable exceptions with Rule #2. Botswana, Zambia, Namibia, Rwanda (yes, I'm serious), Malawi, Kenya, Sao Tomé & Principe and Swaziland.
I'm sure there are some statistical outliers, but the overall pattern remains - more blacks means more gun deaths, first-world or third-world, rich or poor, primarily black population or not.

And even that isn't necessarily causative, but it does raise questions that are hilariously uncomfortable for modern progressive attitudes.

You can't make a really good comparison because both presidents are completely different. Trump wouldn't have allowed the situation to have developed this far, he'd have responded early with a show of strength which is how you get bullies like Putin to back down. With Biden, Putin is counting on public opinion (especially after the disaster that was the afghanistan pull out) preventing Biden from escalating to boots on the ground.

The thing that allowed this to happen, the loss of Bagram as a strategic asset, wouldn't have happened under Trump because Trump had negotiated what would have been a slow hand over of the country to the Taliban. The turbaned steam roller we got to witness in August was direct result of the Biden Administration renegging on the orderly withdraw deal, because they wanted to deny Trump any sort of lasting diplomatic victory.

Putin didn't step to Trump because Trump was a loose cannon; Putin didn't know how far Trump would go and that's why he was a good boy the four years Trump was in the white house: Why fuck with a crazy man when you can wait 4-8 for the next Democuck.
The one time Putin did test Trump in Syria, 200 russian mercs got annihilated.
Putin behaved himself for the rest of Trump's time in office after that.

He also knew that Trump would play the How Much Shit Can I Get Away With Before It Gets Real game right back at him. I said Putin is counting on america being war-weary after seeing 20 years in afghanistan mean nothing. When Russia started massing troops on the border, Trump would have had a rally with 40,000 people chanting "NUKE MOSCOW" showing popular commitment to a war.

This is not to downplay Trump's fuckups in the geopolitical area, or to suggest he's some sort of genius - he was as successful as he was because he used the exact executive level low-cunning against people not expecting it (i.e. you can't outsmart a bullet.).
Also Trump backed off from the NATO thing with Ukraine.

Well, the Swiss are starting to take economic action now too. Sanctions will be almost certainly be intensified over the next few days now that Russia isn't taking a slice of the Ukraine pie and instead going for the whole thing.

oh shit Rosgvardia ... it's like slav equivalent of Army weekend reserve, but more for police duty and beating up stupid students. The whole reason it was created so it's not really military and not really army, so they are cheap and disposable.

You may find them by French troon shirts ... but in pink

The video of the Russians firing a warning shot at a guy got to me. I can't relate to the Ukranians, but I can imagine that I would be fucking pissed that some assholes roll into my city and say I can't walk where I have always walked, in the place where I have lived my whole life. Just because their leaders are butt hurt about something doesn't give the fuckers the right to tell me what to do. The Ukrainian guy that kept walking has balls of steel and my respect.
