I feel like a lot of Ukrainians hate Russians more than the other way around. The Russian soldiers aren’t as into it. Many of them are orthodox and they’re related peoples. At least that’s the sense I get from the body language of the Russians. If the US invaded Canada, I’d expect a similar response from the US soldiers. It’s why they’re sending the Chechens. They won’t have the same hesitations.

This is pretty accurate, my dad worked with an Ukrainian man that immigrated to the US when he was young and lost family in the Holodomer. He was a pretty honest and hard working guy but he still harbored a lot of hatred toward the Russians if they were ever mentioned in a conversation.

There is a lot of armchair generals sperging out on /k/ and /pol/ like retards but what i dont understand is, why did they split up and attack from multiple directions? russia's military is atleast 3 times the size of ukraines. All they had to do was gather their forces and push in from one direction and clear ukraine part by part. it would have been unstoppable, it would have been much easier to keep control of and direct their forces, they could have easily set up FOB's along the conquered parts of ukraine to maintain control as they pushed forward with the bulk of their military.

Instead they attacked multiple fronts in a hodgepodge manner and in doing so don't appear to have a strong grip on any part of ukraine now, the ukrainian government is handing out weapons everywhere in it's country to it's civilian population which wouldnt have been a problem if they'd done a singular directional push. It feels like this is going from a conventional modern military war to an insurgency which is the opposite of what you want to happen.

For logistical reasons maybe they didn't want to bring in all of their troops into the fight? Every new soldier and vehicle you send into a battle is an asset that will eventually need more ammo, food or fuel in the case of BMPs and Tanks. The push from Belarus down into Kiev makes sense because they are effectively trying to cut off the head of the Ukrainian government. Advances from the east could also eventually try to go for Kiev. The troops trying to move up from Crimea could be trying to secure the North Crimean Canal, beyond that I have no clue what the objectives could be on that front.

The mercifully low number of civilian casualties so far says they're making an effort to keep this as bloodless as possible, they could've just carpet bombed Kiev if they wanted to. They're trying to minimize the collateral damage, not because Putin is a nice guy, but because Russian atrocities being all over the news would hurt them.

It'd make it more likely Nato gets involved, put pressure on China to DISAVOW, and probably be extremely unpopular in Russia itself since they see Ukraine as their dorky little brother, not a hated enemy.

Quite likely their shock and awe didn't soften the Ukies up as much as they hoped and the resistance is effective in some places. Russia has kept plenty in reserve tho (again, suggesting they're hoping for a clean victory) so the final outcome isn't in doubt unfortunately.

I mean this isn't Syria If you were planning on annexing land and installing your own puppets into that region connecting it to the motherland you do not want to reduce everything to rubble that you will have to rebuild.
