One thing conspicuously absent from Western media (checking both Fox and ABC right now) is any talk about what the casus belli is. Putin, apparently, attacked Ukraine because he is an power-mad autocrat, and Ukraine is a democracy. Nothing more. The only place I've seen any attempt at serious discussion on what is motivating this is happening in between autistic bouts of shrieking right her on the Farms.

The fact that everyone in the media agrees that this is a war on democracy is enough to convince me that it's anything but that, and the total absence of any serious talk about the causes convinces me, not that Russia is in the right, but that the real cause is complex enough that it doesn't help the Western power elite any for it to gain any traction in public discussion.

If anything, the MSM has gotten worse since 2003. I remember that at least some journalists (member them) were prepared to question the narratives of SCARY WMD and THEY HATE ARE FREEDOM AND DEMOCRACY and PATRIOT ACT. Not most of them, but some.

Since then, Big Media, Big Tech and Big Government have merged into the same homogeneous puddle of gay fluids and no longer seem to care enough to keep their lies consistent.

You will never go to war, AK in hand with a cute Slavic waifu, and in between slotting Russians you make sweet love in a bombed out building. Why even live.
And aren't they cute thinking that their 10-to-1 k/d ratio on Battlefield or Star Wars: Battlefront is going to translate to cutting down Spetsnaz guys left and right.

Russia's communications regulator accused 10 local media outlets on Saturday of falsely depicting what Russia calls a special military operation in Ukraine and distributing false information about events there.
Among those sent warning letters were Echo Moskvy, a popular radio station, and Novaya Gazeta, a newspaper critical of the government whose editor-in-chief Dmitry Muratov was awarded a Nobel Peace prize last year.
Roskomnadzor, the regulator, ordered the media to delete the offending information or face restricted access to their websites and media resources.

Any attempt to bring up the reason is shouted down by the bugmen horde. Ukraine has done nothing but smile and sit quietly since 1993 apparently

>when it's obviously not
A big chunk of it is though. We've already had multiple planes that Ukraine claimed it shot down, which were then proven to be their own planes. I have no doubt that they've inflicted significant casualties on the Russians, but it's obviously not anything like what they're claiming. Shit, we had claims not too long ago that they'd wiped out a whole airborne brigade at the airfield north of Kyiv.
Social media's being (ab)used, loaded with information that don't necessarily have to reflect reality. It's another war of its own. It's a form of psyops.

The real reason is because Putin has changed his answer on the subject like twenty times and it's not worth talking about any of them because his rhetoric only exists to muddle the issue. We've gone from:

1) We're invading Ukraine to stop NATO expansion
to
2) We're invading Ukraine because Ukraine is just Russia and has no right to exist
to
3) We're invading Ukraine to stop evil Neo-Nazis funded by western globohomo

Why bother even giving lip service to what Putin says?

Which is stupid. The US and the EU have proven to be feckless allies. A few medium range ballistic missiles that can hit Kaliningrad, Saint Petersburg and Moscow along with some short range tactical shit would be more then enough to guarantee Russia would not fuck with you. And you would not need a huge standing Army and continue to use the savings that brings for giving more welfare to the pet Somalis.

There really is no downside here.
That could so easily escalate to nuclear war, I could see that being a downside.
