I get it that there are traps/crossdresser like Tamaki or vtubers with no specific gender like Ryushen but what is the point premiering a male-only generation with a female roommate? Niji will certainly release more EN gens in the future so I don't see the point doing that at this moment.

Most likely she applied for the male auditions and got in. Maybe she's the kind who goes with gender neutral pronouns, like Ryushen and Melissa.

Nina has an account and actively posts clips on there, same as her Youtube shorts. It's smart imo, she get's her highlight clips in front of an alternative audience (zoomers) that may not use Youtube as much anymore. I also see a lot of indie vtubers on tiktok including Monarch and shylily. I've noticed that Nina does a lot of community engagement and regularly responds to comments, probably partially behind her numbers.

Most of the indies I see on tiktok are pretty low effort, usually lipsyncing to memes or songs.

For me its difficult to remember Ai with a complete clean image, and i know most of the missteps (the NFT, the VA changes, and so on) comes from the higher ups at the company and not the original VA, after all Ai is a 100% corpo product and she has to follow the script the company provides, even if its shady ones. And i know she isnt the literal first vtuber, but the first to became popular and to stamp the vtuber term, so i kinda understand the respect she has on the shpere.
