Im just not seeing much evidence of Russia in kiev proper...russia is trying to encircle the city....maybe there are saboteurs....but what i do see is shooting and fighting that makes no sense and i think they are shooting at each other.
They at least raided deep into the city last night. There was a big firefight in the area of the polytecnic which is only about three miles down the
road from the city center. You could hear the gunfire (rifles) in the distance but not that far away from the microphones in the square in the center of the city.

Its hard from the information available to get any sense of where the respective sides are within the city or what they are doing,

Nice! Now you're doing honestly good research.

Just pointing out that you missed something totally obvious when you quoted a number from 2007.
That's because I was responding to the question posed: Is the Island capable of garrisoning 80 people?

Which yes, my research showed it can and has since 2007.

Beyond that I thought it seemed pretty obvious why the Garrison would be at full strength now, and why you shouldn't in turn rely on 2012 numbers as that was before Euromaidan

Since it seems relevant and its currently 10:45 PM in Ukraine. I want to ask everyone who do you think will hold Kiev in the morning, Ukraine or Russia?

define "hold"?

Kyiv is a city of 2.5 million with sprawling suburbs that can take an hour to get to on a bus from center of the city. You can temporarily occupy one area or another, control major intersections, post snipers, but to occupy entire city and control everything takes a lot of troops.

Ukrainians had plenty of time to prep. It's well defended but there won't be street to street, building to building fighting.

My prediction: same shitshow. Everyone will claim victories.

I'm not even sure what Russian objective is. There is no reischchancellory to storm to plant aquafresh onto. May be that's what Ukrainians should have done, build one out of plywood so Russians can get their fill playing war and go home.
