Okay, serious question for military, poli-sci and historians.

IIRC, the Geneva convention has provisions that any actor aiding and abetting the enemy can legally be considered an enemy combatant?

If true and correct, then would that not apply to nations giving military aid and entities promoting propaganda? So NATO nations sending weapons. CNN, twitter etc.
It would, but those sorts of things are very open to interpretation, and the ones doing the interpretation are firmly rooted against Russia.

Eh, the land may be of national value. Maybe the national government has invested in that land, etc.
The Donbass was always considered Ukrainian land even when Ukraine was a part of the Russian Empire and the USSR

The Soviets imported a bunch of Russians (there were already a good amount there but not 40%+ of the population) and now Vlad daddy is using them as an excuse as he has been for almost ten years to grab the Donbass for Russia

Doing this altering demographics in a region to fabricate a territorial claim on it is kind of illegal under international law and seriously frowned upon but the big boys do what they want

Croatian volunteers are going to help Ukraine

Google Translate: Dnevnik Nova TV finds out: The first Croatian volunteers are going to defend Ukraine

I'm just going out on a limb here and say isn't this a conspiracy to get people off of Trudeau and the coronavirus?
People call me a conspiracy theorist all the time, but honestly, if your policies are failing and your popularity is going down the drain, why wouldn't you want a distraction of sorts?

Reminder that the US started all of this:

I didn’t really expect Republicans to be ready to believe Putin talking points.
Recognizing the other guy's interests and what he wants is not the same as sympathizing with him.

The "muh Russian collusion" narrative was bullshit, ironically the product of Russian disinfo that the Dems swallowed hook, line, and sinker, because they'd rather blame an Emmanuel Goldstein than admit they lost in 2016 because Hillary sucks.

Literally nobody believes this in the sense of what genocide actually means in the minds of most people, not even the most hardcore supporters of the war. They do believe russians are being mistreated and even facing targeted ethnic attacks of discrimination and humiliation, but not mass extermination. If cornered they'd probably argue that the way Russians are (at least in their minds) mistreated in Ukraine amounts to a UN definition genocide (kind of like the white genocide in the west).
I'm going to have to get a ruling from AOC on that

Literally was replying to the general question of why a region might not be allowed to simply "leave"....nothing in regards to this exact scenario.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone here believe the narrative of Ukraine carrying out genocide against ethnic Russians?
Genocide. No. Atrocities against ethnic Russians in Ukraine. Sometimes.
Atrocities by ethnic Russians against Ukrainians. Sometimes.

The two groups have fought a dirty war for maybe the last 8 years in Eastern Urkaine. Both sides were
too cowardly to try actual military operations to gain ground. But they were real big on throwing
artillery shells at civilians on both sides of the line. I have no respect for either group.

IMO there are no good people in this whole conflict. Its just all shades of evil.

Okay, I'm still 50 pages behind, I don't know if the speed of advance argument is still going on, and frankly I don't care. Anyone trying to compare this to the march on Baghdad would do well to look at a map.

(and yes, these are to scale)
The US also had to stop halfway to Baghdad for almost a week because they outran their supply lines, same thing has happened to Russia on the drive to Kiev. Takes time to unsnarl those kind of mixups

Idk, I know you guys have actual nazis as far back to the 1940s but I can see that as more you all joined up with the enemy of my enemy is my friend, whether they want to ethnic cleanse Russians out of Ukraine idk.
I´m gonna say no bc the distinction of what the difference between a ethnic russian and ukrainian is is negligable. Like differentiating between an ethnic german and austrian. If anything they´re gonna crack down on russian culture/language and force ukrainian education on them

:story: may be in Moscow or wherever you are trolling from.

Have you had a chance to use cell service in Ukraine outside of major cities? I have, lol.

At the risk of giving away top secret intel: you can download the entirety of Ukraine to an offline map on Google Maps. Your phone connects to GPS satellites without needing cell service. Voila, offline navigation with your phone without needing cell service.

Now the Russians definitely don't stand a chance.

Rules only ever apply to those you use them on. Never to you,
