I get it that a lot of Ukrainians, especially in the west, are resisting and vehemently oppose Russian occupation, but I don't like that the media's painting every Ukrainian that way, like they're all sitting scared of the tyrannical Russian mobs swarming their borders. East of Kiev you had people going out and giving presents to Russian troops and cheering for them and in Kiev itself you had civilians getting armed by the government immediately begin attacking government forces with said weapons. That's not to underrate the resistance to Russia, but I think the media is definitely overstating it or at least not mentioning a good chunk of Ukrainians not only support Russia's move but are outright fighting for it.
then why is the east giving the Russian advance the hardest time? Karkhov, Sumy and mariupol are still standing in Ukrainian hands.

They are really pushing the propaganda that Putin is Hitler. "Putler". Dailymail's headline is Putin is "raging in his mountain lair". So they hang the NATO carrot in front of Ukraine, pushing Putin's back up against a wall, and then act shocked and horrified that this is happening. Like this wasn't the plan all along. Meanwhile innocent people are getting killed because of these sick games from TPTB.

Serious question: what is with the rebranding as Kyiv? Kiev isn't quite right either, but "keev" is just wrong. If anything it should be Kiyiv, pronounced "key yeev". If they were going to go through the trouble of re-latinizing the name, why not do it correctly?
They want it spelled and said the not-Russian way instead of the Russian way, since Ukraine is just bootleg Russia.

It's not the first time you've seen problems for fuel with the Russians.

But, you know, I was thinking...

It could be fractured command style, or fuel prioritization that went bad. The other thing is, the POL trucks and the fuel dump might not have been set up, either on purpose or because they jumped too early, and they rolled and hoped they could link up with a friendly unit providing POL.

Or, commanders at battalion or company level could have went "LOL, we have plenty of fuel..." and ordered their men to drive off. It wouldn't be the first time some dipshit lower officer fucked shit all up.

He could have put his less experienced, less loyal troops up in the region with the fuel problems and what we're seeing is arrogance, nepotism, and stupidity.

Or, they drove the trucks to where they were going, unassed them, and hoofed it to where they were going to dig in.

I'd believe this more if we were seeing T72s and T80s abandoned as well, which is something I would expect, since armor drinks fuel like Ethan drinks liquor. These are mostly trucks we're seeing which, though not fuel efficient compared to a car, certainly have longer legs than armor does.

Could be that they are dismounting and going wherever they need to go the rest of the way on foot if these are motorized infantry. Could also be that they're trying to use 'abandoned' convoys as lures to draw in UA units.

I just think we're seeing far too many of these convoys abandoned to chalk it up to Russian autism alone. Unless these are Donbas militias that are running out of fuel in the middle of nowhere, which I could completely expect. Either way, I'm curious to know what the answer is once the war is over and we can cut through both the Ukrainian and Russian bullshit.

alot of the vehicles have Russian IFF.

I can go down to Lowes and get some white paint to paint a Z on the side of my Suburban, but that won't make me a Russkie.

I’m bored, someone come up with the gayest Ukrainian nickname ever. Soldier nicknamed the “Ukranian Seal” for getting 300 confirmed kills trained in guerilla warfare and the top sniper in the entire Ukraine armed forces.
In Ireland we had One-Shot Paddy and his friend Eamon Wright.
I am also shocked at lack of seemly real stand out characters from the Ukarines, Poles where doing calvary charges into German tanks, wheres the crazy slav shit.

Kyiv is closer to the Ukrainian pronunciation "Keev" than Kiev is (the Russian pronunciation being "Kee-ev."
So I imagine it's a solidarity thing or some gay shit.

Propaganda move because "Kiev" is apparently a Russian word.

If this faggot is such a world traveler, he learned nothing on his travels and is little more than a rootless vagabond and a consumer, a grasshopper that hopped from field to field and danced.
What it comes down to is that he took himself with him everywhere he went, and didn't really broaden his horizons beyond things that made him feel happy and worldly. Now things are making him not feel happy and worldly, which is why he cares. He wants it to make him feel happy and worldly again. It's our obsession with endlessly recasting childhood morning cartoon superheroes in bigger and bigger budget movies turned political manifesto. It's somehow dumber than that woman beseeching a picture of a giant Garfield leaning against the Eiffel Tower to fuck up the Taliban.

Wordplay that's been going on for a few years now (in the West) to show what side you're on. Further it's a way for Ukraine to further distinguish itself from Russia and is their official translation which is part of some stuff they've been doing for awhile to be less Russian and reclaim create their new national identity.

The Ukrainian military being dug in in urban areas doesn't mean there aren't a ton of civilians there either indirectly supporting Russia or going out and fighting to help them.
