I don't get how people are saying this is bad for Russia when looking at Georgia '08, which everyone agreed Georgia got utterly curbstomped in by the Russians back when the Russian military couldn't even wear consistent uniforms and got eaten by Georgian Air Defense.

It took the Russians 5 days to capture Gori (an advance of only 25km), and advanced only a total of 55 km before the war ended.

Yet Ukraine is a shitshow despite being on the outskirts of Kiev?

Some interesting stuff on r/Ukraine. Train from Lviv to Polish border apparently was stopped 15 km short of the border 12 hours ago and men were taken off train. If true my guess is that Ukraine was looking for some fighting age (18-60) conscripts.

I'm finding blown bridges to be the best indication of how far Russia has advanced right now. You ain't destroying that infrastructure unless you've already retreated across it and some Uki usually manages to capture the moment for posterity.

Given where bridges are being blown and the recent video of Russians in Kharkov proper now 72 hours in there's not much to support the media screeching and Twitter hot takes that this invasion has stalled.
I mean its cutting off the supply lines for the Russians thats why there are so much abandoned armor, US intelligence reports suggested to the Ukraine command to blow up the bridges and destroy the train tracks. That's probably why there is a lot of video of armor moving through uncontested towns because they have to reroute.

As early as Thursday morning, the Russian side were saying "The Ukranian resistance has ceased".

It is now Sunday.

alright think about it. i genuinely think the taliban should negotiate the ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia. the taliban has historically been attack by Pro Euro forces and Russia before.

it’s not israel is is undeniably pro western
it’s not Switzerland who is neutral but is blatantly pro western
not poland which hates russia and is pro nato
it’s not belarus which is clearly pro russia and being used as an attack platform for russia. it’s just makes sense for the taliban to do it. they have nothing to gain but legitimacy as a state.

But the war is totally going in Ukraine's favor!

I'm not up-to-date on current Russian military capabilities but do they not have engineer battalions? Pontoon bridges have been a thing since the US Civil War.
We've not seen any deployed yet, but that means fuck all. Rerouting will still be faster in most cases, I doubt they have one following around each column, especially if they are taking loses. So they'll have to deploy and escort one to the location

I'll give my own mea culpa and admit I thought that the Russian air campaign on the first day was more effective than it was and that Putin fucked up in the long-term by trying precision instead of leveling the Ukrainian airfields and other exposed targets with cruise missiles like was done in Syria. The Russians in general, in as much as they're behind schedule are because they've taken choices to limit short-term civilian casualties for future occupation but in the process are tying their hands and ensuring more civilian casualties in the long term.
Pretty good take, it would explain their bizarre restraint, so uncommon for Russians.

Totally non-ironic suggestion: India should try to host mediation talks.

They're the closest thing to a major neutral power, have good relations with both Russia and the West, and this would be Mohdi's big chance to shine on the international front.
