Sometimes when people talk about what a "large country" like Russia should and shouldn't be able to do, it sounds like their thinking is based literally on the geographical size of Russia. What is the logic here, that Russia Herself is gonna sit on Ukrain, like a 400kg woman on a starving orphan?

Wtf are you on about? The first few months of the Iraq War were perfectly conventional. The only difference here is that the Iraqi Army disintegrated at the first sign of trouble and the Ukrainian Army has thus far done no such thing.
Well, then it wasn't an actual conventional war, then - but I thought NATO had to fight for like three weeks to capture the country. Ukraine, although a post-communist shithole, is still the third most capable military power after France and Russia in Europe. It's not quite the same.
That said, Russia is under a serious time crunch now. They clearly had hoped to decapitate Ukraines central government at the start of the war, but Ukraines President just did not have the good sense to flee into exile with a plane fool of stolen cash like he was supposed too.
But this is the beginning of the war or first half of it. The invasion will continue for another week + 1 or 2 days or something and then Russia will win.
Now the general mobilization has begun and since this is a war aggression, pretty much all Ukraine has to do is make sure its Army has food and ammunition. The soldiers are gonna do it for free. Russias Army cannot do this, and 150,000 men is not enough if Ukraine manages to hang on long enough to field its new auxiliary brigades. Russia will have to go to general mobilization as well and call up its reserves. Something that is not going to go over well politically.

Time will tell.
Or just bomb them en mass. Three weeks to train conscripts poorly is not going to help Ukraine's situation.

Damn that soldier looks like a kid.
It something that crossed my mind, this is the zoomer gens first real fight and we've wonder why the Russian haven't been shooting and bombing the fuck out of everything, and I wonder if it's because Russian zoomers aren't as bloodthirsty.

I don't even think we've heard much of the chechens doing retard shit.

We have bridge laying tanks and CE personnel trained to do so. No they do not train to build a bridge under fire. I'm going to assume the Russian combar engineers are just as rational as ours and don't expect to deploy a bridge im a non secured area. A Bridge laying tank may not be tall enough to cover a river or lake and one well placed anti tank weapon will wreck it.
I mean if the bridge is already out might as well call in an air strike, and then get to work after any threats are neutralized.

Can you?

There are 4 main reasons why Putin might want Ukraine

1. No nato on russian doorstep (that would work with puppet state not annexing)

2.De-nazification (smells like bullshit but Putin doesn't seem to have whole set to work with nowadays)

3.Go back to ZSRR. (More plausible than above but way beyond grasp of Russia in today's times)

4.Resources. (Land and natural minerals. Make Russia great again.)
It's about the gas pipelines. NS2 was getting fucky and starting to become a net loss in the long run. Jamal is dependent on Ukraine and Poland, with Poland getting most of their gas via Baltic Pipe in october, which leaves it with only Brotherhood to sell their gas to Europe. Even if they wanted to sell their gas east to china, they can't use the same Jamal source for that. That gas is the majority of income for Russia, so they're very pissy about that being disrupted

Random question: if the Ukraine were to take out these train lines, could that fuck their push from Belarus? Is Belarus well defended (generally? I'd assume they are more so now).
I would say yes. They could do what the Russians did in WW2 and put anti tankmines on the rails to cause a derailment. Legal target in international law too.

Which is the crux of the issue. From a purely economic standpoint, this conflict is a war between Texas and Oklahoma.

That's one possibility..... But wouldn't a much simpler answer be that the Russian have a 0 tolerance policy for collateral right now? For optics and because they don't want to rebuild a shitload of damage if they win?

You can root for Ukraine without thinking they're actually gonna win in the end.

You can also root for Ukraine independently of why the NPCs are rooting for them. You should not be rooting for the buck-breaking of innocent people just to piss off Reddit.

What if the good guys winning will just advance the cause of globohom throught ?

It's because us dopamine addicted Amerimutts are too used to the GWOT style of war, where Shock and Awe was used to devastate the enemies of freedom and democracy, in a Hollywood 1980s style action movie.
