Ukraine was basically a more neutral Belarus prior to the U.S. Gay Op that was Maiden, and ever since it's been drifting into Estonia territory. At no point since the ouster of Yanukovych did Ukraine try to meaningful deal with Russia. The seeds for this war aren't 2021, 2020 or even 2016, they're all the way back in 2014 and at no point did those bushes get dug up from the root before they bore fruit.
If one wants to remove the culture war lens, as to the quote I was originally responding to, and one should fairly and in all cases remove the emotional lens, that means ones should look at it for what it's objectively about and that's Ukraine adopting a Western regime at the hands of Western planned colour revolutions that refuses to cooperate with Russia and through many political blunders, sought to antagonize it. There is no doubt in my mind that part of the ignition of this war was Zelensky hinting that he's open to the idea of joining NATO which I believe occurred last week, though the tinder was planted long ago.
I have never once taken other side on this conflict because both parties involved and their full throated supporters are idiots and the entire conflict is dumb. Ukraine is fighting Russia over an island and two pockets full of ethnic Russian's wanting to join Russia for the last 8 years out of pride for a former USSR artificially constructed border. Russia is killing people to prevent Ukraine from bringing NATO to their doorsteps and to probably unite the small Russia diaspora into their nation.
Between these two retarded justifications, the Russian one makes more sense. Though every geo-political force from Washington to Moscow has acted like complete idiots over this matter for the last 8 years. It used to be Russia was part of things like G-8, until Globohomo needed a villain. Eastern Europeans never seem to see the bigger picture and just point to centuries of problems with Russia as justification for why Russia always has to be the villain in their national stories.
But perhaps I am the one that's wrong, maybe humanity (or parts of it) are doomed to fight the same retarded wars with the same retarded players for all time. All I know is that England and France and England and Ireland, eventually, were able to set aside most of their past grievances with one another. There's no reason a state like Ukraine couldn't do the same with Russia.
