As a porn-hating 'n' tranny-hating atheist, it bothers me that so many of the ex-christian content creators that I respect that criticize christianity and the ideologies of other religions seem to be absolutely fine with the gender cult. It just makes no sense to me. The trans movement shows so many signs of religious radicalization, like child indoctrination and using things like transphobe/TERF/truscum to silence their critics, yet these guys almost always have videos that guide trans people on how to come out to their parents, or have a couple of "enbie" or transwoman friends. It's genuinely baffling that they don't see the hypocrisy in siding with a movement that uses every strategy that a group they dislike uses, like, come on guys.
I stopped caring about the atheist/skeptic movement a loooooong time ago when it just got washed away with lefty bullshit. There was this weird "let toys be toys" thing going on at the periphery at the time when I was involved trying to shame shops not to have boy and girl sections for toys.
I know all the fuckers who were obsessed with this were low level handmaidens at the time and I bet if I could remember their names and checked they'd be called for young boys to be castrated if they ever touched a doll or for teenage girls to have their tits chopped off if they ever kicked a football nowadays.
Troons were starting to infiltrate these movements way back then. I wish I could remember so of the blogs the troons wrote that the handmaidens would present as real science. I can remember wondering how a troon spouting that they have comparable hormone levels to a real would was getting past everyone's critical thinking capacity and no one was pointing out that they were taking a hell of a lot of pharmaceuticals to obtain that.
At least the weirdo third wave/Tumblr feminists who ushered the troons in are having their spaces destroyed by them now.

This is something I've noticed too. There seems to be an interesting division though- People whose atheist activism came from science and science education seem to be where they were before. People who were just activists without that base of science seem to have moved to political causes. They seemed to have ended up with rightish/libertarianish YouTube debate bros... or leftish social justice focusing on race and gender.
There are obvious exceptions so this isn't really a neat break. Jen McCreight and PZ Myers are scientists who are aaaallll about the trans. I haven't paid a ton of attention to Seth Andrews, but he's an activist sort who (I think) didn't fall down the gender hole. Matt Dillahunty kind of strikes me as partly never having left religion behind, but rather just have found something new to be evangelical about in addition to advocating for Arden's view on gender because dickgirlfriend. He would be bullish on whatever the leftish cause of the day is.
There's probably some other thing in here I'm missing that leads to magical thinking and human exceptionalism.
They switched religions is all. They left Christianity and were left with an emptiness where God and faith used to sit. I believe that humans are designed/evolved/whatever to believe in something bigger than us. There have been religions found for hundreds of thousands of years, across almost all areas where humans live. I don't know if that means there is a God or not, but I know it means that people have a deep-seated need to feel like there's something out there.
People who reject Christianity and replace it with science seem more stable than those who don't, true. I feel like they have let science become not a religion, but at the same time it is a religious stand-in. It fulfills that need for something bigger. A lot of these people have studied the Bible as well, at least to some extent and found it lacking for various reasons. These people are really typically atheists of the Christian God because they haven't studied the Torah/Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, etc. Surprisingly, not all Abrahamiac religions are interchangeable. /sneed
Whereas a lot of people just reject religion and don't try to replace it with anything and I think it breaks something in them. I think that's when you see them turn to degeneracy and extreme political views. I include those on the far-"religious" right in this group because a lot of them don't actually go to church and read the Bible. They don't know what they believe in, which is pretty much the same as not believing at all.

I feel a lot of it is inertia from the gay movement plus a lack of hanging around troons. Most past atheist realized gays were not hurting anyone by being gay. The atheist want to be tolerant to what they see as a rigid structure based on outdated morals. Seeing troons mostly as gay men and women, but gayer is still a popular misconception. Crime statistics aren't as reported on, and you're more likely to encounter innocuous feel good post about trans rights than true and honest girldick fights unless you're in the lgbt online circle.
Young atheist of the past often now have other things to focus on, like jobs or families or other fulfilling things they didn't in their younger years. It is much easier to passively nod to something that sounds good (yes, trans people have trans brains therefore science backed so I will say trans rights) from people you agree with than it is to go with something you don't think sounds good from someone you don't like. So troonism slides on by, unnoticed and only passively into.

So you're taking five billion estrogen to counteract that testosterone that helps your body stay in shape even though T isn't eating you from the inside out, but atheist can't see it or don't do digging on it because whatever. Even if they were to dig, it isn't as easy to find all the more neutral or damming studies on transgenderism. This thread is one of the few places that has actual trans critical data gathered, along with terf places and detransitioners. I think it has much to do with the idea "the enemy of my enemy is my friend." Traditional Christianity does frown upon transsexuality and things related to it (such as crossdressing). Since atheists tend to have a less-than-supportive attitude toward that religion, and since most transsexuals seem opposed to more traditional (i.e. Christian) ways of living, they find a common enemy to be united against. It's like more progressive-minded people being wholly supportive of Moslems, despite the abuses they inflict within their home countries. It's not Christian in nature, and is therefore good.

A lot of the New Atheists got cancelled or chased out by the lefties, so they are sucking up to Christians and being all coy about their atheism to get their cash and fight the Culture War (see James Lindsay or Sargon of Akkad for examples.)
The lefties used to rail on Christianity all the time, then everyone else would say, "great, now do Islam" and they would go silent. It was easy for them to go full Culture War too as it avoided difficult questions that could get called racist if they answered with intellectual honesty.

It's a shame that Ukraine took them in but they can't be grateful enough to fight. It's a war where they'd be on the losing side, so if you ran from one country already (understandably since Iran is a turbo shithole) you're going to go into survival mode, shed all your beliefs, and run again. It is scummy and infuriating for both normal people and trans people (you abandoned the caaaaaause...), but staying alive is practicality.
