Even with all the correct inputs, there are bad years. This happened every decade or so in the Soviet Union even after they stopped believing in agricultural voodoo. There were even periods when they were buying wheat from the US in exchange for security concessions.It will be really bad in the short term. But ironically, food is something they won't have to worry about with the Ukraine either annexed or firmly within their sphere of influence. Russia and Belarus also has all the industrial infrastructure needed to produce fertilizer. What will hurt is advanced and modern machine and industrial equipment.
