What's the status of Kyiv? Apparently it's holding out. Kharkiv's still apparently in question.

If I was the Ukrainian President I wouldn't meet with anyone at the Belarus border. Russians have a nasty habit of kidnapping negotiators from the other side. Maybe Helsinki, Stockholm or Geneva.
Ruskies are in the northern suburbs. I've been watching streams of Maidan Square:

Other than sporadic booms, gunfire, and the occasional air raid siren, it's been quiet.

Yeah, I expect to wake up one day to news that Zelensky got backstabbed.

I can't see any countries that were under the thumb of the soviets ever agreeing to talks on Russian chosen ground. Occasionally they can learn from their predecessors.

Why do I feel like the peace talks will break down? Is it my bias against Slavs? The fact that I'm convinced Putin is going to get greedy and ask for way more than reasonable for the present situation? The fact that Ukrainians all want to die anyways so what's another few weeks of war? My almonds are being so activated

Ukrainians must have been the most honest people on this planet.
Cos it seems like the concept of "lying" is a brand new invention in Ukraine. Do they think it's some sort of cheatcode/superweapon? Like chill, Ukebruvs, try saying something not made up in-between the bullshit for a second.

Like seriously, you are being invaded - a natural upper hand in the sympathy department.

This photo is at least a day old, they're wearing Ukrainian uniforms so they definitely aren't Russian soldiers. I don't understand how twittoids still haven't had the time to learn what both sides wear, it'd allivate 99% of the confusion about this shit. The last time I've seen it posted it was claimed to be Russian saboteurs, although that's literally everyone gets called so I'm doubting it.

Russia will say: “We get Donbas and Crimea, you get no more military so we can invade any time we want.”
Ukraine will say: “You fuck off”

And then Zelensky gets a gun pointed at his head and taken into custody.

The peace talks are a meme. The US Ukraine won't agree to demilitarize or cede territories and if Putin invades and only gets out with the opening territories while getting sanctioned to the point of isolation he'll be committing political suicide for no gain. It's just a stalling tactic and possibly a way for him to save face internally while adopting the standard Russian combat doctrine.

Some people forget that parts of the Russian army have tried a coup in recent times (1991). And they damn near succeeded.
People don't realize that every time there has been a power struggle in Russia over the last 100 years, it's been the military that decides who gets the power.

There is a reason why Putin created the Rosgvardija as his own personal paramilitary organization. To have some active way of enforcing his degrees without needing to rely on the military.

Every Russian leader who has ever existed has known that the Russian military is a sword of Damocles above their head. If their interests are not being followed, they might just decide to replace you with someone else.

I just saw the Russian nuclear alert a few moments ago and wow. Shit really is getting real.

My cousin's place out in the boonies in Tennessee is starting to look really good right now, I just may take some sudden time off at work and head out for a visit... what's the consensus, farmers; are we gonna be playing Fallout in real life or is Putin just trying to get our panties in a twist?
There is just no way to know anymore. There is no adult leadership in any of the countries involved. You look at the line up:
- Joe Biden
- Macron
- Justin Trudeau
- Boris Johnson
- Olaf Scholz

These are all stupid, incapable people. Meantime the western media is building up a literal war frenzy in a completely irresponsible way. And that kind of thing
can create a momentum of its own. There is a literal will out there now in the public to go to war regardless of any consequences including nuclear war.
The narrative in the press exactly reflects the thinking of the American elite which means they are willing to accept a war as well.

The thing is that a big war could come as the result of a bunch of small actions. Joe Biden is stupid and a coward. But he could be convinced to do something
like start an air war over Russia as a "safe option". In alot of very scary ways, the world feels like August 1914 right before world war I broke out. Only all
the leadership in all the countries today is FAR WORSE than it was in 1914.

I'm hoping for a miracle. But in the back of my mind I keep thinking we are doomed.
