For all of the talk about how Ukraine being western-aligned harmed Russian security interests we kinda forget that Ukraine being Russia-aligned harmed the security interests of Poland/Romania/Moldova/etc. It's a two-way street. How do you balance that? Especially since Ukraine has had Russian dick buried in their ass to varying degrees since 1991 and a sizeable portion of the population is not happy about it.

To be fair Poland/Romania/Moldova are irrelevant to the US. It's relevant to Germany, France and the UK. This is one reason Trump wanted them to pay/contribute to their defense and NATO. We are the world's police and it isn't always to our benefit/advantage to be in that position. If other NATO countries actually made the contributions they're obligated to make they would have been more invested in what's been going on in Ukraine for the past 20 years.

The only reason I care about this clusterfuck is the effect it will have on the US and the Pacific (eg China). All politics is local as Tip O'Neill observed and in all honesty all I care is how this will affect me, my family, taxes and my ability to grab a bottle of Stoli.
