I've been following a university (Catholic University of Leuven) livestream on the Ukraine situation and the professor (who has connections w/ Brussels and the EU government) had some interesting things to mention:
- Threat perception of Russia by the EU government has skyrocketed from "petulant temper tantrum" to "actual, existential danger"
- Ukraine is being considered for a fast track EU membership (they've been trying to join since the 90ies)
- The EU has been implementing the thermonuclear equivalent of economic sanctions. The standards of living in Russia will collapse.
Yeah i've been reading up on what they've done with sanctions and they are metaphorically thermonuclear, to the extent they may create a response that is actually thermonuclear. They are basically stealing 300bn of Russian cash.

EDIT: It would be darkly comical if that actual fucking moron Ursula Van Der Leyen ends up being the one that kills us all

Lol finally admitting it.

Greece apparently has two ships still anchored east of Odessa, and can't leave due to martial law. They're also pretty mad about something or other that happened last year with Russia

It's All Greek To Me

Foreign Minister: Two trapped ships with Greek sailors in the port of Odessa

On the show Society Hour MEGA, the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Alexandros Papaioannou, spoke about the situation in Ukraine, what is happening with the Greek expatriates, but also our sailors who have been trapped in Odessa.

"There are two ships with Greeks anchored in another port east of Odessa. By martial law no ship can leave the port. Our consul is in contact with the crews and at the first opportunity we will see what we will do. There are 6 Greek sailors in one, and 7 in the other. "Everyone is in good health," said Mr. Papaioannou.

"Our consul general and one of our ambassadors have gone to Mariupol to strengthen the consulate. Our consul in Kyiv asked to evacuate the embassy, asked for approval to do so. There were few Greeks left in Kyiv. There were some in the embassy yard with whom he left together and is in contact with the few other Greeks who are in Kyiv. "As he explained to us, it was not possible for him to come into physical contact with the other Greeks, due to the situation", he continued regarding the Greek consul in Kyiv, who returned to Athens.

"The ministry had issued a military directive that we had discouraged any trip to Ukraine, and we had urged all Greeks to leave. This happened several days before the start of hostilities ", Mr. Papaioannou also noted.

"The announcement of the Russian embassy is unacceptable"
Mr. Papaioannou also referred to the particularly harsh statement of the Russian embassy last year, which on the occasion of the illumination of the Parliament in the colors of Ukraine called on the Greeks to "come together".

"The statement from the Russian embassy is unacceptable. We have evidence and that is why we called the Russian ambassador and he was protested last year. "It was stressed that there were airstrikes that killed ten of our compatriots, and that Russia must respect humanitarian law," Papaioannou said.

"I have not seen such language used. I consider the announcement to be unacceptable and inconsistent with diplomatic tactics. The Russian ambassador did not give us any explanation on the matter. There was a phone call on Saturday, which concerned the death of ten expatriates. "This post was made later," he added.

About 100 Greeks in Odessa and Mariupol
Mr. Papaioannou also stated that "In Odessa and Mariupol where we talk to the consulates, we have a little over 100 Greeks who want to return."

Did they try to strap explosives to dogs yet? Because their strategy seems to be an even mix of Third Reich, Spanish Republic and Soviet lunacy.

"This cute little Pomeranian is the Pupper of Kiev and destroyed 192 tanks and received 338 pets so far. Boris Johnson in talks to award him the Dickin Medal for dickin' the Russian Army."

This would lose all good will so I'm torn between loving doggerinos and wanting this propaganda push to blow up in a million faces...

So about that terse radio exchange...
the timing in it was right out of a fucking movie, whereas IRL they'd likely interrupt the russian demand and shout their obscenities back - you're gonna die anyway, might as well let emotions fly. but oh no no, they were stoic to the last lmao! yeah right...even in slavshits I can tell who's reciting their lines like it's a fucking drama play or TV show, where the writers are huffing their own farts.

We already delved in Spanish civil war territory with the formation of one (or apparently more) anarchist brigade. Reports of antifa brigades are pretty big for propaganda, in Europe at least.

Too much capeshit has driven all possible nuance out of the minds of the NPC. One side has to be unambiguously good while the other unambiguously evil. Its absolutely ruined any possible discourse on anything politics as to admit faults on their own side is to shake their entire "good guys vs bad guys" world view.
It's always been like this. NPCs in the 90s hardly knew how morally abhorrent the USSR was in WW2 or how they coperated with Germany to invade Poland. Allies good/Axis bad.

It's funny to think that when I was young I used to have a pretty major phobia of nukes, but now, as everything's happening around, I just kinda feel nothing. I guess, as I grew up, I learned that there some things that you can do absolutely nothing to change, so there's not much point worrying about it. My only hope is that if unspeakable happens (and I'm still gonna send some :optimistic: energy to the Universe regardless), that it will be instant with no sirens, anticipation and panic.
Leaving no time to even think about it.

Russia's top military command has ordered heavy strategic bomber flights in effort to block US and European military aid from getting to Ukraine, per a defense ministry statement

Shit is going down, guys.
It would be the dumbest thing to give USAF in Europe an excuse to enter combat. F35 memes aside the Russian AF cannot compete with USAF SEAD and BVR AA capabilities nor can they afford losses from a peer to peer skirmish.
