I don't know.

But the West often manages to get its way without an invasion.
a) "the west" is quite a bit bigger than russia with a much bigger pull
b) if all of that fails, then what?

Also the EU can't stop buying russian energy. Their green energy cult has made them completely dependent on Russia.

The EU does no dirty energy production, they leave that all to Russia and import it. Doesn't matter if its the same fucking planet as long as they get to virtue signal.
It's like the US EPA driving mostly clean factories out of business in the US. Only to end with the manufactuing done by China who is give zero fucks about pollution and just strait up dumps everything in to the air and sea.
it's mostly retarded germans. iirc france is building 5 or so new nuclear power plants, UK as well but can't remember the number. as long as they can import it they don't care how much waste it produces as long as the local carbon footprint makes them feel better about themselves.

German has its foul brown coal,
most of it is imported, while there is enough in theory it's costly to mine, not to mention it's absolute shit PR (there was a large protest pre-covid media liked to report on, and most normalfags are totally "pro green" but at the same time don't want whole areas turned into a giant hole). if putin turns off the gas they'd have to import more - or go into big slapfights to open more mines.
the biggest irony is that the party that was whining about nuclear energy the most alongside the party who fucked up the whole energy policy for a decade is now the sitting government. I'm still curious how they want to power all those electric cars which weren't really a thing when they had the retarded idea 10 years ago. fun times ahead!

Another morning with electricity and the interwebs.

I guess I was wrong that hiring a (Latina,Cisgender) CIA analyst with an anxiety disorder was a tad to intersectional. Her therapist must be proud of her.

Blaming the US/"West" for the current Russo - Ukrainian conflict is just ignorance. Sure, you can look at this over the short term history wise and say it is due to XYZ intervention/meddling, but looking at any European conflict that way ignores thousands of years of historical conflict and animosity. So all the "Russia is just defending against NATO/Western aggression" bullshit is just that, bullshit. NATO wouldn't be a thing if it were not for the very real threat posed by Russia.

Ok so. Based on what's happened so far, with the SWIFT ban, insane amount of sanctions, the unexpected amount of resistance the Ukrainians are holding, and the list of countries pledging military assets and soldiers building, what are the chances this is actually literally unironically without a doubt kicking off a massive war? Maybe not WW3, maybe no nukes, just a large scale battle with death tools in the hundreds of thousands?

Because it feels a bit like this whole debacle is being staged to have excuses to shore up money and set up talking points for the 2024 election
It really depends on if Ukraine has enough time to Mobilize and whether they can keep their Army organized in the field. If the answer to both those questions is yes we can start seeing some pretty nasty conventional battles with high death totals. No chance as high as hundreds of thousands (there are barely 300,000 in the field right now counting both sides), but certainly in the many thousands.

We'll know shit has gotten real if Russia starts calling up more divisions from its other conflict areas in the Stan's and Caucasus.

Yeah we should ignore the past 2 decades.

The fuck are you talking about Ukraine and Russia have existed since exactly two weeks ago and were born entirely out of the fact that we are mean to troons on twitter.

To be fair to the Americans, this is a European war so I can understand the U.S not wanting to become more involved then they need to. Hence why most of the support is coming out of the UK and EU.
You saw how the Afghanistan exist was handled by the US. I imagine it to be that disastrous or worse. I wanted the US to exist Afghanistan, but in the complete wrong order and very rushed, in addition to giving the Taliban $85 billion dollars in weapons.

Ukraine is basically demanding white peace. Pull all Russian troops, even from the separatist regions. I don't think negotiations will be productive

I've literally never accepted an offer of White Peace in my decade of Paradox campaigns. I always just assumed it meant I was winning.

Sure they can. It'll quickly mean massive unemployment, widespread rationing and levels of poverty not seen since the 1970's, but they were heading that way with green mandates anyway.

They economically skullfucked themselves over a flu that 99% of people under the age of 80 shrug off easily. Anything is possible in the EU, as long as it's extremely gay and self-harming.
But Germany was so virtuous for shutting down all its nuclear power plants. Nuclear power plants are icky and kill whales or something. Double plus bad, Russian Gas Double plus good. But also bad because Carbon.

You wouldn't be entirely right in saying that EU has nothing *but* coal or muh green energy.
France, rather recently too, had reactivated a few nuke reactors, and has openly stated that they want to build more, much to the then dismay of the eternal Kraut.
you should've seen the butthurt when brussels was starting to consider labeling nuclear (and gas) as sustainable energy due to it's low emissions. iirc austria and luxembourg were complaining the loudest, followed by spain. still curious where especially luxembourg is supposed to get that green energy from with ample space for dams and wind turbines...

If this guy or that Miles faggot shows up in my country, I am going down into the bunker and not coming out, because pestilence is soon to follow.
I'd respect Miles more if he at least stuck around instead of evacuating. Actually document a warzone or a falling government.
He specifically goes to war zones just to waste resources for refugees and people in a warzone.

Bald had the sense to leave a war zone and did not enter it when it was a warzone.

As far as I'm concerned, Putin drove Russia to a national suicide the moment he attacked Ukraine.

The sanctions are something the Russian economy can never recover from in its current state. The living standard of the average person will fall drastically, he can no longer travel abroad, he can no longer purchase the goods he used and all his savings will vanish. There will be no real economic development in Russia anymore. Once the ability of the government to trade and gain international currency dries up, inflation will spike up. We might see something very similar happening to Russia as what happened to Venezuela. The difference is that Venezuela never had any delusions of being a relevant world power. Russia does. They wish to create a rival "Russian world" to the current "Atlantic world." This will never work.

Russia as we know it today will fall. It is only a matter of time. The only way to keep any sort of control is to go full "North Korea" and become an international pariah that brutally destroys any internal dissent. I don't think that Putin will be able to manage that. There are way too many rival forces with power and way too much to lose to allow him to do that. Whatever rises from the ashes will be something completely different to Russia as we know it today.

The danger is that Russia in its death throes is a dangerous beast that might lash out unpredictably. We cannot know what will happen if the Russian leadership decides that the game is over for them unless they do something extremely drastic. Considering the ultranationalist in control of Russia, this could very well mean a major war.

"Why do we need the world if Russia is not in it?"
Russia has nothing but its irredentism .

With nothing to lose it will expand again.

That's only applicable to land warfare.

Kaiser Bill and the funny moustache man never tried a landing because the bongs had a fuckton of Battleships and they seethed and coped at this fact for the rest of those wars.

The Chinese take Taiwan but then are trapped with the whole U.S. navy outside Taiwan and that means that they're trapped like a caged monkey with a banana.

Right now, the US navy has much less ocean to patrol in order to keep China hemmed in. Look at a map of the Pacific near Asia. There is basically a string of islands blocking China from unfettered access to the Pacific, and all of them are in the US orbit right now. What this means is that, in practice, China accesses the Pacific only because the USA lets it. If China takes Taiwan, its access to the Pacific no longer means passing through straits controlled by the USA or its allies.

If there are going to be nukes going off, at the very least I'll have peace knowing the bossy, diversity hire trannies and fag Generals at the Pentagon that have fucked the US over irreversibly will receive a few seconds of unimaginable pain from Russian hypersonic targeting before being vaporized in an instant, leaving their manly shrieks still hanging in the air afterwards.
yeah but at what cost?
just remember frens if in the event of a nuke, find your desk, table or under your bed, take a few seconds to make peace with your maker then kiss your ass and this world good bye.
