I've been impressed but not surprised how quickly the powers that be have had people go completely kill crazy over a conflict no American is physically involved in and that would, without sanctions, never affect any of their lives. Double that for the EU where the sanctions will fuck them up along with Russia.

Nearly no one was giving Ukraine more than 2-3 days to hold defence. Germany in first step declined help for them because they was sure that Ukraine will fall first night. Supplies from Europe started AFTER it was clear that Russians aren't prepared to war. And from politic side no one in european governments is doing that because they like Ukraine. They doing this because they see Russia as a giant thread, and see in any damage in russian economy or military as a giant plus. If they will have chance to destroy Russia, they will do that.

But what effect is the Russian campaign having on the Ukrainians? They are under siege, their infrastructure is crumbling. Soon the people in Kiev will starve.

As difficult as it is going to be for the Russians, it is going to be much more difficult for the average Ukrainian. Russia just needs to outlast Ukraine and it almost certainly will.

Putin is going to get everything he wants. The West can offset some of the costs that the Ukraine is facing, but they can't teleport weapons and supplies into Kiev. They can't make the Russians at home as miserable as the Ukrainians are going to be, trapped in Kiev and their other cities.

I give it a month. I say this with no joy, but rate this post informative or your mother will die in her sleep tonight.
