Exactly. China has HUGE influence in the west to the point that people are scared shitless of defining Taiwan even a country.
Personally, I hope China invades and that the world bands up against them like they did with Russia to break this shitty untouchable reputation they gained over the years. The risk of war is higher there, but China is known to be fucking strong so doubtful. The US might threaten nuclear retaliation first though.

It's definitely making China think about what kind of resistance they might run into if they try to take Taiwan. It's a totally different battlefield, but they're limited in that they're totally dependent on amphibious landing and paratroopers, so they will be outnumbered at the beginning.

Honestly if a "respected" nuclear power drops a bomb on another modern country today it is over. The fallout alone is going to harm way more than just the country it was dropped on. The few hours after that are going to determine the course of humanity (if we don't turn each other into glowing skeletons) for the next thousands of years.
